Trades impact baseball betting futures

The MLB trade deadline is just a couple days away and the rumors are swirling around the league with buyers and sellers looking to make deals.

And that inevitably affects the baseball betting futures list.

The biggest deals of the season likely already happened a few weeks ago when CC Sabathia went to Milwaukee and Rich Harden ended up in a Cubs uniform. Other pre-deadline deals included Joe Blanton going to Philadelphia, and Xavier Nady trading in his Pirates jersey for Yankee pinstripes.

Sabathia and Harden both greatly bolstered the rotations of the Brewers and Cubs, while it's still wait-and-see on Blanton and Nady.

The list of suspected available players is a long one, but it always is at this time of the year even though most big names don't end up going anywhere. Starting pitchers supposedly on the block include Toronto's A.J. Burnett, Kansas City's Gil Meche, Texas' Vicente Padilla, Seattle's Erik Bedard, and Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo.

The top arms in that group belong to Burnett, who will stay in Toronto if the Jays can't find a good deal, and Bedard, who'll stay in Seattle unless he can get healthy fast. Jarrod Washburn's name has also been tossed around, with his destination likely being the Bronx.

Good bullpen arms are in short supply, but Baltimore's George Sherrill, Oakland's Huston Street, and Colorado's Brian Fuentes could likely all be had for the right price.

The top position players available appear to be Atlanta first baseman Mark Teixeira and Colorado outfielder Matt Holliday, if the Rockies do decide to trade their best hitter.

Other outfielders who could have a new address on Thursday include Pittsburgh's Jason Bay, Seattle's Raul Ibanez, San Diego's Brian Giles, and, believe it or not, Boston's Manny Ramirez. The Red Sox appear to be growing tired of Manny being Manny, but the chances of them actually trading the valuable slugger are still very low.

If you're looking to place a few futures bets on possible buyers you may want to do it before Thursday, when the odds will most likely get shaken up. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels are listed at 7/2, 7/5, and 9/4 on the current AL pennant future odds at .

Other buyers could include Tampa Bay, a 5/1 underdog at , and the White Sox, a 4/1 'dog.

In the NL there are a ton of potential buyers, including the Mets, Phillies, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, and Dodgers. The top of the NL pennant odds list at currently belongs to the Cubs at 9/5, followed by Milwaukee at 5/2, the Mets at 3/1, and the Dodgers at 17/2.
