RBC Canadian Open betting preview

Canadian Golfer Mike Weir

It's been over 50 years since a Canadian won the Canadian Open. Can Mike Weir or Stephen Ames finally snap that lengthy losing streak and finish on top of the leaderboard at Glen Abbey?

To become the first Canadian to win the Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954 Weir and Ames will have to make sure Jim Furyk doesn't pull off a three-peat. Furyk won his second straight Canadian Open championship last season after edging Vijay Singh by a single strike at Angus Glen.

Furyk's other championship win in 2006 came at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, so he has yet to win at Glen Abbey. Furyk is available at +760 at .

The last time the Open was held at Glen Abbey was in 2004 when Vijay Singh defeated Weir in a playoff to keep the Canadian from making history. Singh is skipping the Open this season, while Weir is available at +1450 at . Canada's other best hope, Ames, is available at +1800 at

Last week's British Open champion Padraig Harrington will also be taking a pass on the Canadian Open, as will Open Championship runner-up Ian Poulter. In fact the top finisher from last week's Open field at Glen Abbey will be Furyk, who tied for fifth.

Running alongside the Open last week was the US Bank Championship in Milwaukee. Richard S. Johnson claimed his first win on the PGA Tour there, and he'll go for back-to-back victories this week at Glen Abbey.

Since it takes place a week after a major the Canadian Open has tended to miss out on many top names in previous years, but there are still a few notables scheduled to play Glen Abbey this week.

Along with Furyk, Weir, and Ames some of them include Retief Goosen, Ryuji Imada, Anthony Kim, Carlos Villegas, and Scott Verplank.
