The NFL preseason kicks off in just two weeks with the Hall of Fame Game between the Colts and Redskins. The NFL preseason is a great time for bettors to pad their bankroll so they'll have more money to play around with during the regular season.
The preseason is heavy on usable trends that can make it even more profitable for the smart bettors who search them out. To help your search here are five Week 1 preseason games with some worthwhile trends to follow.
First up is the Hall of Fame Game. It's no secret that the preseason means absolutely nothing to the Colts. Indy would probably rather skip it altogether and just get the regular season started.
That's likely why the Colts are a dreadful 3-11 ATS in their last 14 preseason contests.
The Skins, on the other hand, are coming off a solid 2007 preseason in which they were 3-1 ATS. With Jason Taylor in need of a few reps to learn the new system in Washington, and Jason Campbell also in need of some playing time after missing the end of last season, the Redskins could be headed for another successful preseason.
The second game to make our trends list is the Giants at the Lions. New York is great on the road in the preseason with a 4-1 ATS mark in their last five road games. The Lions just happen to completely tank at home during the preseason. In their last seven preseason games at home the Lions are only 1-6 ATS.
Next up is Philadelphia at Pittsburgh in a preseason battle of Pennsylvania. The last three times the Eagles and Steelers have clashed in the preseason the home team has both won the game and covered the spread. Can the Steelers keep this trend alive at home in Week 1?
Totals bettors may want to take the OVER when Seattle and Minnesota collide in preseason Week 1. The Seahawks have gone OVER the total in six of their last seven preseason games. Also worth noting is that the last four preseason contests between the Vikings and Seahawks have all played OVER the posted total.
Finishing off our five Week 1 preseason contests is St. Louis at Tennessee. Possibly as revenge for Super Bowl XXXIV the Titans have won all three preseason matchups against the Rams.
St. Louis also appears to be one of those teams that doesn't care much about the preseason, with a 2-6 ATS record in their last eight preseason games.
