Get to the Point

By Jimmy Harris

It was a busy weekend for bettors with NASCAR, the PGA, and even the Arena Football League worth a look, as well as the usual, baseball.

On the NASCAR circuit the track at Indianapolis was shredding tires like they were paper, but Jimmie Johnson likely didn't mind as he recorded his second win of the season. Johnson was a +325 'dog at , and don't be surprised if he starts climbing the Sprint Cup futures odds. Kyle Busch may be the favorite, but I'll be putting some cash on Johnson. It's hard to doubt a two-time reigning champion.

Another Arena Football League season is in the books after ArenaBowl XXII was played in New Orleans over the weekend. Favored Philadelphia defeated San Jose 59-56, but that wasn't good enough to cover the 4.5-point spread. I expected the SaberCats to make it back-to-back Bowl wins, but I'm not complaining about their loss since I still got paid off on the spread.

All of my PGA bets turned out to be a waste of time and money over the weekend after unknown Chez Reavie locked up his first win on the PGA Tour north of the border in the Canadian Open. My No. 1 pick Anthony Kim had a shot at what would have been his third Tour win of the season, but he fell apart in the final round after shooting a four-over 75. Thanks Kim! Everyone calling Kim the next Tiger Woods may have missed the mark.

Even though they had their eight-game winning streak snapped on Sunday night the damn Yankees were one of the top teams in baseball to bet on this weekend. I'd rather see the Yankees go 0-162, but even I laid some cash on them on Friday and Saturday when they were a +100 and a +120 road underdog. Luckily I guessed right on Sunday and expected their winning streak to finally stop against Boston hurler Jon Lester. When you're a Blue Jays fans the only way you can win when the BoSox and Yankees are playing is by placing a winning bet.
