Alex Palou Wins: Clinches 2nd IndyCar Championship

Palou Ditches Dixon for a Spectacular Victory

In a spectacular turn of events at the Portland International Raceway, Alex Palou, the Chip Ganassi Racing sensation, secured his second IndyCar championship with one race to spare. Palou, known for his drama both on and off the track, put on a spectacular show on Sunday, reminiscent of his runaway victory at Laguna Seca last year.

Championship Challenger Dixon’s Efforts

Palou’s only real competition for the title, his teammate Scott Dixon, did everything within his power to step his game up. Dixon spent most of the race in the second position behind Palou. However, as the checkered flag waved, Palou’s lead had extended from 74 to a commanding 91 points. With only 55 points up for grabs in the final race at Laguna Seca, Palou’s win was sealed. Alex Palou wins, thus, a second championship.

Alex Palou expressed his excitement and gratitude after the race.

“I love this. I never thought I’d be an IndyCar champion, and to be one two times feels like a dream. This team gave me all the tools I needed to win.” Alex Palou

Palou’s confidence and composure on the track have made him a standout performer in the series, and a standout among IndyCar champions.

Future with Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR)

Team owner Chip Ganassi confirmed that Palou would remain with CGR for the 2024 season, despite legal disputes stemming from a contract with Arrow McLaren. Ganassi praised Palou’s determination and said, “I said, ‘Let’s go wrap this up today,’ and he said, ‘I’m going to wrap this up with a win.'” And that, he did. Both Alex Palou wins are nothing short of spectacular.

Alex Palou’s journey to his second championship had greatness written all over it; the IndyCar world now eagerly awaits his next moves in the IndyCar schedule 2023 as a bonafide, two-time champion.
