Brandon Aiyuk Wants Out of San Francisco 49ers

All-Pro Wide Receiver Unhappy with Contract Talks, Demands Trade

The San Francisco 49ers are heavy favorites in futures NFC sports betting odds. However, that status could become slippery because, in sports news on Tuesday, elite wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk told the team he wants to be traded. Aiyuk wants out of the 49ers, creating a potential shake-up in the team’s dynamics.

Aiyuk would make more than $14 million in the final year of his rookie contract. However, he has not been able to negotiate an extension or long-term deal with San Francisco, leading him to ask for a trade, per Mike Garafolo.

Samuel Wasn’t Thrilled Earlier This Offseason

Aiyuk wanting out is not the only issue in San Francisco’s wideout room. The 49ers had issues with Deebo Samuel, their other talented wideout. In fact, Samuel admitted earlier this offseason that the 49ers spoke to another team about trading him.

Yeah, I heard it,” Samuel said. “Had a conversation with my agent about it. They were going back and forth with it, whoever it was. It was a thing at first. But gonna move past it. We’re here, and we’re here to get better.”

Whether Samuel or Aiyuk is moved would impact NFL betting odds and NFL playoff odds.

The issues could be why they chose Ricky Pearsall, a wideout from Florida, in the first round of the NFL draft.

Combined Impact of Aiyuk and Samuel

Between them, Aiyuk and Samuel have 572 receptions for more than 8,000 yards and 44 touchdowns with San Francisco. Aiyuk is entering his fifth season while Samuel heads into his sixth.

SFGate offered insight:

While both sides have kept things close to the vest, there have been some signs that negotiations might not have been as peaceful as they appeared.

Besides being vague about his future and his girlfriend posting on social media, “We might not be out here next season” he posted a video of a conversation he had with new Washington Commanders quarterback, and his former Arizona State teammate, Jayden Daniels where he said, “They don’t want me back.”

That was back in mid-June, and, in hindsight, it appears as though there was some truth to that comment. According to Garafolo’s reporting, “the Niners haven’t been willing to engage in negotiations since May so Aiyuk has respectfully asked out,” although the two sides did meet recently. This further underscores the situation where Aiyuk wants out of the 49ers.

Contenders for Aiyuk if He Is Dealt

What teams could be in the market for a player of Aiyuk’s talents? There are never enough great hands in wide receiver rooms. However, the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Pittsburgh Steelers rise to the top of the list.

On a similar but different front, the Dallas Cowboys are having contract squabbles with their great wideout CeeDee Lamb. If those negotiations remain unsettled, could the Cowboys jump into the picture and try to land Aiyuk? The scenario where Aiyuk wants out of the 49ers could open up various possibilities for other teams looking to strengthen their wide receiver lineup.
