Daley Reflects on His Final Dive and the Fulfillment of a Legendary Career
“I’m really happy with how everything’s gone” an emotional Daley told the BBC’s Meghan Owen as Team GB arrived back in London from Paris. “It’s always hard when you say goodbye to your sport. Lots of things to process, but I think it’s the right time. This year felt like such a bonus and I got to compete in front of my family, my kids. I got to be flagbearer. So yeah, bucket list ticked off on every occasion. Tom Daley retires at a moment when he feels fulfilled, having checked off all his career goals.”
“I want to be with my family. I’m really excited to be able to spend some time with them and just be able to feel a bit normal for a couple of days.” There was time for fun in France, too, as Daley led the Great Britain divers in a Speedo dance. The diving community will dearly miss him, but Tom Daley retires knowing he has left an indelible mark on the sport.

He won the silver medal in the men’s synchronized 10-meter at the 2024 Olympics, making him the first British diver to win 5 Olympic medals. Daley also competes in team events, winning the inaugural mixed team World title in 2015, and repeating the win in 2024, his fourth World title in all. He is an Olympic champion, a 4-time World Champion, a 2-time junior World Champion, a 5-time European champion, and a 4-time Commonwealth champion.
