‘Court’ Rules Against Jordan Chiles in Gymnastics Controversy
USA Gymnast Denied Bronze Medal in Floor Exercises, Again
In absurd Olympic news, the USA’s appeal to allow Jordan Chiles to keep her floor exercise bronze medal has been rejected by something called the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Games in Paris are over yet the controversies continue to percolate. Chiles Medal Controversy has become a focal point in these ongoing disputes.
Chiles initially scored a 13.666 in the Aug. 5 event … but got her score increased by one-tenth of a point following a challenge by her coaches. The elevation moved her from fifth to third in the standings — giving her the bronze. However, the Chiles Medal Controversy took another turn when the medal was later revoked, dropping her back to fifth.
The USA had produced video evidence that the appeal filed for Chiles, who was originally placed fifth in the floor exercises, was within the one-minute time limit. The IOC had ruled that Chiles’ appearance came four seconds after the allowed limit. Yet, the USA had proof in the video that the team had questioned the judges after 47 seconds.
Despite this evidence, the Chiles Medal Controversy persisted, with the medal ultimately awarded to a Romanian gymnast instead.
Chiles was overjoyed at the decision to boost her in the standings, but that happiness turned into distraught emotions when she learned she had been placed fifth once again.
USA and Romania Agreed
The USA and Romania gymnastics federations had discussions on the issue. They came to a reasonable conclusion that the gymnasts should share bronze medals. No harm done to anyone, right? Wrong. It seemed a wise decision was going to be the result, and then the IOC got back involved and would not accept the compromise.
At the original medal ceremony, USA gymnasts Chiles and silver medalist Simone Biles celebrated gold medalist Rebeca Andrade. That was one of the most impressive acts by athletes at the Olympics. It symbolized what the Games are supposed to be about, not political shenanigans.
Flava Flav with One Cool Idea
Rapper and water polo lover Flava Flav heard about what was ongoing with Chiles Medal Controversy and offered to ease her pain. He said he would make a bronze clock for the gymnast.
