Fans Take Legal Action After Copa America Chaos
Suits Filed To Get Refunds after Failure To See Match Due to Incidents

The Copa America Final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens (FL) was a debacle outside the venue. In soccer news, fans that spent good money trying to see Argentina play Colombia but were denied because of the chaos have decided to sue, leading to the 2024 Copa America Lawsuit.
The Miami Herald reports Isabel Quintero is one of five people taking legal action. Quintero spent $2,000 on a pair of tickets so her Colombian dad could watch the game. They never made it into the stadium.
Per the Herald:
Quintero is now one of at least five Copa America ticketholders who are suing after the stampede flooded the stadium before Sunday night’s highly anticipated matchup. After the swarm of ticketless soccer fans, security shut the gates, locking out hundreds and possibly thousands of ticket-holding fans — meaning a deluge of other lawsuits could be on the horizon. The 2024 Copa America Lawsuit named South Florida Stadium LLC, which operates the Hard Rock Stadium, and CONMEBOL, the South American football confederation, as defendants. Quintero’s complaint, filed Thursday by attorneys Khristopher Salado and Judd Rosen, blamed organizers for the woman’s injuries, citing “security’s complete lack of training, preparation, and/or safety protocol.”
Quintero was injured in the melee, suffering external injuries, possible internal injuries, and overall bruising when tramped in the chaos before Argentina defeated Colombia, 1-0 for the championship.

Martinez Family Seeks Justice and Refund After Missing Copa America Final
Jacqueline Martinez was also impacted. She spent $4,000 for four tickets and never got into Hard Rock Stadium. Security proved overmatched and ill-equipped, completely failing to provide safety for those who actually had tickets.
The family turned to the courts, seeking a refund for their expenses and the distress they experienced during the tense scuffles, said attorney Irwin Ast. “They saved for years to go to this game” Ast said. “Some people sacrificed not this year’s vacation, but the last three years’ vacations so they could afford these tickets.”
The attorney summed it up in a way everyone can understand:
“They thought they were going to see a once-in-a-lifetime event” Ast said. “You can liken it to having tickets to the Super Bowl [and having people] rush into the arena, sitting in your seat.”
The 2024 Copa America Lawsuit highlights the serious consequences of inadequate event management and the need for better security measures in the future.
