Gentlemen’s Final at Wimbledon Rematch of 2024

Carlos Alcaraz Looks To Defend Against Novak Djokovic

It will be the same time next year at Wimbledon. Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will meet on Sunday in the gentlemen’s final, marking the 2024 Wimbledon Final rematch of the scintillating championship match in 2023.

Djokovic, aiming for his eighth Wimbledon men’s singles title, faces Alcaraz, who seeks his third Grand Slam. Alcaraz disposed of Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the second semifinal on Sunday.

Djokovic won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4, handling his opponent with clinical precision in two hours and 48 minutes. The final will be his 37th in a Grand Slam and 10th at Wimbledon.

Expect sports betting odds on the final to be close, as the match will feature the second and third seeds.

Alcaraz hopes history repeats itself, as he ousted Danil Medvedev in a 2023 semifinal and then beat Djokovic in the final. On Friday, Alcaraz beat Medvedev in a semifinal again.

The championship match is a rematch of the dazzling 2023 final between the Serb and Spaniard. That grass-court classic made major tennis news when Alcaraz lost the first set and the pair wound up playing five sets.

In the final, Alcaraz won 1–6, 7–6 (8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. It was his first Wimbledon title and he denied Djokovic a fifth straight title in the major. Overall, Djokovic has won the grass-court event seven times.

Fairly Even Head-to-Head

Head-to-head, Djokovic has won three of their five meetings. After losing at Wimbledon, the Serb defeated the Spaniard in two other meetings in 2023, both on hard court surfaces.

Before Djokovic won his semifinal, Alcaraz faced a more difficult opponent on Centre Court. The third seed advanced to the final with a brilliant four-set win over Medvedev.

The Spaniard dropped the first set and took the next three.

“I feel like I’m not new anymore. I feel like I know how I’m going to feel before the final. I’ve been in this position before,” Alcaraz said. “I will try to do the things that I did well last year and try to be better.”

It will be interesting to see which way sports betting swings when it comes to this final event.

Alcaraz Has Fun With English Crowd

Carlos Alcaraz managed to chide the Wimbledon crowd by mentioning Sunday would be a big day for Spain.

“It’s going to be a really good day for the Spanish people, as well,” he said with a smile. “I didn’t say Spain is going to win. I just said that it’s going to be a really fun, fun day.”

That was good fun, of course, because in addition to Alcaraz playing for the Wimbledon gentlemen’s title, Spain will face England in the Euros championship match.
