Georgia Bulldogs Top 2024 Coaches Poll

Realignment Shakes Up College Football Rankings

The Coaches Poll is out for the 2024 season and in college football news, the Georgia Bulldogs tops rankings.

It won’t be easy for the Dawgs to stay in the top spot as they open with Clemson and also play Texas and Alabama on the road in power-packed SEC games. Still, they received 46 first-place votes compared to seven for Ohio State, which placed second.

Realignment Reigns

The 2024 season brings a slew of changes when it comes to how conferences are lined up. Oklahoma and Texas have bolted the Big 12 for the SEC. Good luck to the Sooners and Longhorns in their first season in the juggernaut conference.

Oklahoma landed at 16th in the Coaches Poll, one step below fellow SEC school Tennessee. That still sounds weird. The Vols will be in Norman on Sept. 21 in what should be an intriguing matchup.

Far more is expected from Steve Sarkisian and Texas. The Longhorns received one first-place vote in the poll and sit fourth behind Oregon but one rung above Alabama.

Texas faces Michigan on Sept. 7 in Ann Arbor. Other tests for the Longhorns will come with back-to-back games in October against Oklahoma and Georgia. The game everyone has circled is Nov. 30 when the rivalry with Texas A&M renews.

That will be more spirited than usual after Texas plucked Aggie baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle from the national championship-winning team.

The sports may be different, but this provides the first huge chance for the jilted Aggies to send a message to the Longhorns, who also got some baseball transfers from Texas A&M. Expect a Slobberkocker.

Who Ranks the Best?

This is the Coaches Poll, and that means those who vote probably don’t do as much homework as the writers in The AP Poll. Still, it is worth a deep dive by conferences. In college football betting news, expect plenty of matchups between teams that are in the Top 25.

The SEC alone has nine teams in the rankings. Nine! The Big Ten, which adds UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington to a stacked conference, leads with Ohio State at two and has defending national champ Michigan clicking at eight. How many schools from the Big Ten are in the initial rankings? Five, with Iowa coming in 25th.

Notre Dame in Top 10 But Needs to Win Quality Games

The highest-ranked team that is not in the Big Ten or SEC is Notre Dame, which is seventh. The Fighting Irish will face an instant test on August 31 when they play Texas A&M. Otherwise, it is the usual mundane schedule with the exception of games against Florida State (ranked 10th) and USC (23rd).

The College Football Playoff has expanded to 12 teams. That won’t help Notre Dame if it slips against any of the lower lights on its schedule. Attaching yourself as an independent pseudo-ACC player doesn’t boost the stock.

Add in games against Army and Navy, and you can see the strength of schedule flailing.

This figures to be a fascinating college football season on the field and at the sportsbooks. With the realignment, there will be tougher games in both the Big Ten and SEC for those schools. The Big 12 has a new look, too. College football Saturdays are packed with intensity and emotion. Look for each to kick up a few notches in 2024.

Georgia Bulldogs tops rankings means every game will be a test, especially with powerhouse opponents lined up.
