Jacksonville Jaguars Sue Ex-Employee for $66.6 Million
Amit Patel Ripped Off NFL Team To Tune of $22.2 Million

Amit Patel pled guilty to stealing $22.2 million from his then-employer, the Jacksonville Jaguars. In NFL news, the AFC South team isn’t done with him. On Thursday, the Jaguars filed a suit seeking $66.6 million. Amit Patel steals millions, causing damage three times greater to owner Shahid Khan and the organization.
Handled Virtual Credit Card Accounts
Patel oversaw the team’s virtual credit card program. That gave him unfiltered access to take the millions of dollars. Once the team discovered his heinous acts, legal charges were pursued.
According to court documents, Patel transferred $20 million of the funds to FanDuel, where he had a VIP host, and $1 million to DraftKings. ESPN has previously reported that Patel was a high-volume, high-stakes daily fantasy sports player known for racking up big losses.

In December, Patel pled guilty to the charges of stealing millions so he could continue sports betting over 3½ years. Patel is serving a 6½-year sentence at Williamsburg federal prison in South Carolina.
“This case exemplifies the FBI’s relentless effort to protect American companies and their customers,” Mark Dargis, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division, said in March. “Amit Patel knowingly and wittingly created a deceptive scheme to fund a lavish lifestyle at his employer’s expense, and today’s sentencing is a warning to other scam artists.”
“Today, the IRS intercepted Patel’s playbook and achieved justice for the American public. Patel deceived the Jacksonville Jaguars and used his position of trust to steal from the team, gamble on games and fund a lavish lifestyle” IRS-CI Acting Special Agent in Charge Lani Rosado-Espinal added. “IRS-CI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to provide the financial expertise to unravel sophisticated fraud and money laundering schemes.”
Jaguars Pursue Further Legal Action Against Amit Patel
Amit Patel steals millions, and now his problems mount as the Jaguars want to continue to get their claws into him.
Per Xuan Thai, a senior writer for ESPN.com, spoke to a Florida-based attorney about the suit and situation:

“civil lawsuit allows the victim to control the litigation process” Negin Kordbacheh, an attorney who practices business law in Florida, told ESPN. “There’s also asset recovery. They can garnish wages, seize assets, et cetera. These are obviously tools that are very important for making sure that the victim receives full compensation.”
