Lewis Hamilton Inherits F1 Belgian Grand Prix Win as Teammate Is Disqualified

George Russell’s Car Was Found To Be 3 Pounds Underweight

It turns out that George Russell’s Mercedes Racing Team will never forget that 1.5 KG equals 3.30 pounds. In F1 auto racing news, the driver was disqualified after finishing first in the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday because his car was underweight. Ouch. Russell disqualified in Belgium after a stunning performance left fans in shock.

That tweet was a premature celebration.

The DQ – sounds more like WWE than F1 – will impact sports betting odds as well as the points standings. Russell was knocked clean off the podium. The victory goes to his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who has 105 victories now. The news of Russell disqualified in Belgium has ripple effects on the standings.

“We have to take our disqualification on the chin” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said when the decision was finalized 2½ hours after the race. “We have clearly made a mistake and need to ensure we learn from it… To lose a 1-2 is frustrating and we can only apologize to George who drove such a strong race.” The team is determined to learn from the incident of Russell disqualified in Belgium and come back stronger.

Stewards’ Explanation

The stewards released a statement after discovering Russell’s car was below the 798-pound threshold.

The FIA weighed Car 63 on both the inside and outside scales, with both showing the same result of 796.5kg” a stewards’ statement said. “The competitor confirmed and witnessed the calibration of both scales. During the hearing, the team representative confirmed the measurement’s accuracy and stated that the team performed all required procedures correctly.”

The team also acknowledged that there were no mitigating circumstances and that it was a genuine error by the team. “The stewards determine that the team breached Article 4.1 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations and therefore need to apply the standard penalty for such an infringement.Russell disqualified in Belgium is a reminder of the strict regulations and the importance of compliance.

Russell stepped up on Twitter and posted a statement after the disappointing news:

George Russell had won the race by 0.526 seconds over his Mercedes teammate. A victory is worth 25 points. Finishing second nets one 18. Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc completed the top three after the decision. The victory would have been the third of Russell’s career.

Instead, Hamilton adds to his gaudy career total at the expense of a teammate. “I feel for George, and you don’t want to win a race through a disqualification, but we fought back for victories in the past few races,” Hamilton said. “It is incredibly competitive now.”

How Does It Happen?

A Technical Delegate’s Report released after the race stated that, while the car initially complied with the minimum weight of 798kg, the team then removed 2.8 liters of fuel. The report reads: “The team did not fully drain the car according to the draining procedure outlined in their legality documents, as required by TR Article 6.5.2.

Max Verstappen managed to finish fourth despite receiving a 10-place penalty and starting 11th for using one too many engines in his Red Bull.
