PGA Tour and LIV Golf Combine: Saudi-Backed Alliance Purchases Sport Credibility

Expect Lawsuits Dropped After News of Merger Between PGA Tour and LIV Golf

Details Still Being Worked Out as PGA Tour and LIV Golf Set to Merge

So much for a Tuesday not normally being a big news day in the golf world, as news breaks that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will be combining forces.

After months of bickering between players on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the stunning news first reported by CNBC that the two tours are merging.

Time will tell if the bad blood, evidenced by a recent tweet by Phil Mickelson directed at Rory McIlroy, will carry over when the players from both tours take part in events.

The merger should bring an end to any litigation that threatened to disrupt the golf world.

The deal still needs to be approved by the PGA board before the PGA Tour and LIV Golf combine.

The CNBC report included a memo sent by PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan to PGA Tour players.

“There is much work to do to get us from a framework agreement to a definitive agreement, but one thing is obvious: through this transformational agreement and with PIF’s collaborative investment, the immeasurable strength of the PGA Tour’s history, legacy and pro-competitive model not only remains intact, but is supercharged for the future.”

The merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, a rival organization backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, overseen by the Saudi crown prince. This strategic merger sets the stage for an exhilarating future, blending the expertise of both entities and harnessing the collective power of the Saudi Arabia golf industry.

Welcome Back

The merger will allow some high-profile players who had been banned from PGA Tour-run events to return to playing in all events and not just the majors as the PGA Tour and LIV Golf combine together to strengthen player fields after having the players split into the two rival factions.

The move came not long after Brooks Koepka, a member of the LIV Tour, won the PGA championship.

As of right now, players on the LIV Tour can re-apply for membership into the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

The next US-based event on the LIV Tour will come in August at the Old White at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

The next PGA Tour stop is in Toronto beginning on Thursday and that is followed by the US Open in Los Angeles.

When it comes to betting on golf, Scottie Scheffler (+700) is listed as the favorite to win the US Open followed by Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm at +800 and Koepka comes in at +900.

When looking at the golf odds, Scheffler is listed at +275 and McIlroy at +300 to win a major before the end of the 2023 golf season.

The move could make for some interesting dynamics between some players who feuded via social media since LIV Golf began throwing huge money to lure away some of the sport’s biggest names.
