While he won’t shake up sports betting odds the way he did in his prime, Nadal will be a welcome presence at the final Grand Slam tournament of the year to be contested in Flushing, New York. The Rafael Nadal US Open appearance is sure to draw significant attention.

King of Clay
Nadal has won 22 Grand Slam titles, four at the US Open. Fourteen of his major championships were won on the clay courts of Roland Garros. He won Wimbledon and the Australian Open twice apiece.
It will be intriguing to see if Nadal returns to the US Open and eventually meets Novak Djokovic in the final Grand Slam of the year. The duo has played 59 times with Djokovic leading 30-29. However, in Grand Slam matches, Nadal has won 11 of the 18 meetings.
Injury-Riddled
The 38-year-old has been beset by injuries over the past few years. He missed the Australian Open in 2024 due to a torn hip muscle, lost in the first round in the French, and skipped Wimbledon.
A look at the injuries Nadal has incurred throughout his career:
– 2003: Elbow injury
– 2004: Stress fracture in ankle
– 2005–6: Foot injury
– 2007: Forearm injury/dizziness
– 2008/9: Tendonitis
– 2010: Knee injury
– 2012: Tendinitis/patella tendon injury
– 2013: Stomach virus
– 2014: Wrist injury and appendix surgery
– 2014: Back injury
– 2016: Wrist injury
– 2021: Foot injury
– 2023: Hip injury
Coming into the tournament after so many recent injuries and no match-action, sports betting sees Nadal as one of the tournament long shots. However, he is beloved and will certainly be a crowd favorite no matter how long his run. Rafael Nadal US Open participation, despite being in the twilight of his career, has not led to an announcement of his retirement.
He returned to the court on July 15, winning a doubles match in Sweden. Nadal and Ruud won against second-seeded Guido Andreozzi and Miguel Reyes-Varela 6-1, 6-4 in front of a packed crowd that came to see the 38-year-old Spaniard play his first tour match since May when he lost in the first round of the French Open to Alexander Zverev. Talk about a generational battle, Nadal played Leo Borg, son of the iconic Bjorn Borg, in the first round of the singles tournament. Nadal downed the younger Borg in straight sets.
