Luis Rubiales’ mother takes a stand. Ángeles Béjar, mother of the suspended head of Spain’s soccer federation, has embarked on a hunger strike, protesting the treatment of her son in what she calls a “bloodthirsty witch hunt.”

Rubiales stirred controversy by forcibly kissing player Jenni Hermoso during a victory celebration in which their team held the best World Cup results and all they wanted to do was celebrate. Despite his apology and insistence of consent, Hermoso contradicts him, saying she did not agree to the kiss.
FIFA imposed a 90-day suspension on Rubiales, which triggered Rubiales’ mother into finding solidarity within the church, where she remains accompanied by her daughter.

The women’s national team, Spain’s World Cup favorites, adds its voice to the uproar. Expressing solidarity with Hermoso, they declare they won’t play until Rubiales resigns.
