Team USA Star Wins Seventh Olympics Gold Medal

It was business as usual for the great Simone Biles on Saturday in Paris. In Olympic news, the fantastic USA gymnast earned another gold medal, this one for the vault. Biles wins vault gold with a score of 15.300, her second in Olympic competition. She previously won the event in Rio in 2016.

‘Pommel Horse Guy’ Does It Again
American gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik — aka “Pommel Horse Guy” — earned a bronze medal in the event. Nedoroscik scored 15.300 points on the apparatus to finish third on the podium behind two-time world champion Rhys McClenaghan, who captured gold and Ireland’s first medal in Olympic gymnastics. Nariman Kurbanov of Kazakhstan took silver.
Rodman’s Dazzling Goal Propels USA To Medal Round
The USA and Japan were in a tense match to see who advanced to the semifinals in the women’s soccer tournament. The game was scoreless through 90 minutes and continued that way until Trinity Rodman took over.
Rodman blistered a shot into the net to give Team USA a 1-0 victory. Her coach appreciated the greatness of the moment. “Their block is the best in the world” coach Hayes said. “They brought out our best patience, which was the most needed skill today …[Rodman’s shot] was a world-class finish.”
Rodman was thrilled after the latest goal by the USA women since the 2012 Olympics when Alex Morgan scored in a semifinal. Rodman understood the magnitude of the moment.
“It was the best moment of my career” Rodman said afterward. “I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

China Gains Gold in Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis event saw an upset winner of the gold medal. Qinwen Zheng of the People’s Republic of China defeated Donna Vekic to win the championship.

USA Men’s Basketball Romp
In ho-hum Olympic basketball news, Team USA continued its march into the medal round as the top seed. The basketball bunch crushed Puerto Rico, 104-83. Next up is Brazil in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Anthony Edwards was the star against Puerto Rico with 20 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including a spectacular windmill dunk.

South Koreans’ Golf Careers on the Line
Tom Kim and Sang-moon Bae of South Korea are in the men’s Olympics golf competition. In South Korea, able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military for at least 18 months to as long as two years.
The golf event continues on Sunday. In some ways, the South Koreans are playing for themselves and their country. In another, they are playing for themselves and to avoid an obligation to their country that could cost them their golf careers.
