USA Basketball Triumphs Over Team Serbia
Durant and James Lead the Way While Murray and Evans Save Match Points in Tennis

Being on USA Basketball is a great experience. It also can be humbling because of all the talent on the team. Jayson Tatum of the NBA champion Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton learned the latter Sunday when the USA Basketball dominance was on full display as they defeated Team Serbia 110-84.
In basketball news, only in the Olympics and megastars get DNP in the box score. Those three letters stand for “Did Not Play.” Neither fit into coach Steve Kerr’s rotation for the game that saw Kevin Durant come off the bench – more Olympic uniqueness.
Durant scored 23 points in 17 minutes, nailing his first eight shots, including five from behind the 3-point arc.
“I’ve been playing ball my whole life, so I simplified it,” said Durant, who was playing after recovering from a calf injury. “And when the ball touched my hand, it was be aggressive.” USA Basketball dominance continues to be a talking point with performances like Durant’s.
LeBron James continues to defy Father Time, lighting up Serbia for 21 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. This Serbian team featured Nicola Jokic, yes, that Nicola Jokic (20 points).

Caitlin Clark News Without Her in Paris
There was much hullabaloo over Caitlin Clark being snubbed by the Olympic Team for the women. Coach Dawn Staley managed to create some sparks from France by intimating the decision was not sound.
“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people” Staley said on NBC in an interview with Mike Tirico.
Moment of the Day
It was early in the tennis tournament but a win is a must in that sport. Andy Murray of Great Britain is coming to the end of a great career. He wasn’t quite ready to go out.
Murray and Dan Evans saved five match points to remain alive. It is doubles for a player who has won three Grand Slam singles titles yet it meant everything:
An indescribable moment watching Andy Murray and Dan Evans save five match points in the third set to then win in his final tournament.
Both men literally jumping for joy after.

“Obviously we strive to obviously play every point at the end. I thought we were done” Murray said. “Dan came up with some good returns. I came up with some good serves at 9-6 to get us to 9-8. Unbelievable. I’ve been played a doubles match like that where I saved that many consecutive match points. Special place to do it obviously.”
“… Both of us have loved competing for our country over the years. We’ve been on the same Davis Cup team for many years. Dan has huge passion when he’s competing as part of a team. Both of us wanted to do this together and for my last tournament… I’ve loved being part of the Olympics. It’s an amazing event. It’s meant a lot to me over the years. To get to finish playing here one last time is extra special. I’m glad we lived to fight another day. It would’ve been disappointing to lose today. But we keep going. Let’s see when we can get to.”
