USA Women’s Gymnastics Team Dazzles in Winning Gold Medal

Coco Gauff Not as Fortunate in Olympics; USA Women’s Rugby Medals with Miracle Finish

There was some good, some sad, and some beautiful at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Tuesday. Biles shines in Paris 2024 as she and her teammates led the USA to a team gold medal in the women’s gymnastics competition.

A day after the men won bronze in their team competition, gymnastics has been a highlight for Team USA. Coco Gauff wasn’t as fortunate as she wound up crying after a third-round loss in the women’s tennis singles. And, an amazing run led to the USA women’s rugby players earning bronze. What a play.

Biles shines in Paris 2024 as she won her fifth gold medal as the USA women dominated the competition in team gymnastics.

ESPN described the performances as more of a concert than a competition that is how dominant and splendid the U.S. women were.

Team USA scored 171.296 and was six points clear of Italy and Brazil, the countries that completed the medal podium in the event.

Biles scored 14.666 on her floor routine. To give you an idea of how impressive she is, teammates Jordan Chiles (13.966) and Sunisa Lee (13.533) were excellent on the floor but not close to Biles’ brilliance.

Gauff Exits in Round Three

Coco Gauff had three set points in the first set but failed to close in her third-round match with Donna Vekic.

Gauff spoke after her 7-6 (7), 6-2 loss on Tuesday.

The point in question:

Gauff served, and Vekic’s return landed near the baseline. A line judge initially called Vekic’s shot out; Gauff did not keep the ball in play. Chair umpire Jaume Campistol thought Vekic’s shot landed in and awarded her the point, giving her a service break and a 4-2 lead.

Gauff argued to no avail and went on to lose. A tearful American spoke after being eliminated.

Tennis should have a VAR system… I’m not gonna sit here & say one point affected the result today” she said. “There have been multiple times this year where that happened to me where I feel like I always have to be an advocate for myself on the court. I feel like in tennis, we should have a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system because these points are big deals. Usually, afterwards they apologize.”

“It’s kind of frustrating when the sorry doesn’t help you once the match is over.”

“I can’t say I would have won the match if I would have won that point. But being down a break… Maybe replaying that point can make a big difference in that game.”

“But I’m not gonna sit here and say one point affected the result today, because I was already on the losing side of things before that point happened.”

  • The Long and Short of Olympic Men’s Basketball

Wemby (7’4”) is the tallest, and Togashi (5’6”) is shortest player in Paris 2024

Wemby had an interesting comment after the last bucket in overtime, per San Antonio’s Mike Finger:

“Let’s f***ing go!” … in English. I asked him if the US has rubbed off on him.

“That’s a basketball player thing,” he said. “I think in Mongolia, Australia, or the North Pole, they say it.”
