Fans broke down a barrier at the Southwest Entrance in Miami Gardens (FL). A crush of humanity headed toward the stadium that would play host to Colombia and Argentina in the tournament’s final.

There was no way to ascertain how many fans breached the gate without tickets, creating a recipe for trouble on an already tense night.

Eventually, police shut the Southwest gate. They then reopened it, but there was only one pathway to check tickets. That created a logjam as fans tried to get in for the match.

A bloodied fan was being held down while crying.

Ticket Prices Were Exorbitant on the Secondary Market

In soccer news, tickets for the anticipated match between rivals Colombia and Argentina were going for between $2,000 and $3,000 each on the secondary markets.

In another instance of poor planning by CONMEBOL, the location for media members to pick up their credentials was near the gate that had been breached, adding to the Copa America Final Chaos.

Videos of security chasing unticketed fans were on social media.

The chaos continued on a day when temperatures reached the mid-90s in humid Miami Gardens.

The Copa America Final Chaos marked a troubling prelude to what should have been a celebratory event.
