Crystal Palace Stats History

Crystal Palace F.C. claim to be the oldest professional football club in the world. Originally founded in 1861, Crystal Palace were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1863. One of the more interesting Crystal Palace stats is that they participated in the first ever FA Cup in 1871-72.

The Club became professional in 1903 and played inside the grounds of the Crystal Palace in London until 1915. Crystal Palace were champions in their first Third Division season, in 1920-21, winning promotion to the Second Division. In 1924, the Eagles moved into their current home, Selhurst Park.

From 1926 to 1958, Crystal Palace remained in the Third Division South without any major success to speak of. The 60’s were an exciting time for Palace, though.

Under ex-Tottenham manager Alan Rowe, however, Palace gained promotion back to the Third Division in 1961. One of the more bizarre Crystal Palace F.C. team stats is that they were the first team to host Real Madrid in London, despite being a third division club. Two weeks before the European Cup final in 1962, Real Madrid eked out a 4-3 win over CPFC in a friendly.

With another promotion in 1964 under Dick Graham, Palace were back in the Second Division for the first time since 1925. Five years later, Palace were promoted once again and reached the First Division for the first time. They were relegated in 1973 but beat Manchester United 5-0 that same season.

Unfortunately, Crystal Palace were relegated again immediately and bounced around divisions for much of the 70’s and 80’s. Palace were back in the top tier in 1989 and even reached the FA Cup Final in 1990.

Crystal Palace F.C Team Records

Palace were a founding member of the Premier League in 1992-93 but were immediately relegated. They yo-yoed back and forth between the top tier and second tier over the next few years but participated in the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1998.

In each of their first four spells in the Premier League Crystal Palace were relegated, most recently in 2004-05. Palace returned to the Premier League in 2013 and finished a best-ever 10th in 2014-15. In their ninth consecutive year in the top flight, Patrick Vieira led Palace to the FA Cup semifinals in 2022.

As of 2022, Crystal Palace have never finished higher than tenth in the Premier League. However, they finished with a positive goal differential in the EPL for the first time in 2021-22. So, taking their EPL odds isn’t always a bad idea. With their current betting odds of +50000, the betting advice might be to eye Crystal Palace to be relegated at +600, despite last year’s improvement.
