Nottingham Forest Stats History

Originally supposed to be a shinty club, a man named J.S. Scrimshaw proposed Nottingham Forest play soccer instead. As such, he and other local men established Nottingham Forest F.C. in 1865. They have worn their “Garibaldi red” uniforms since the formation of the club. Forest entered the Football League in 1892.

The first FA Cup triumph in the Nottingham Forest stats was in 1898. Despite losing 5-0 to Derby County in a league game five days before the final, Nottingham Forest rallied to win the rematch, 3-1. Nottingham Forest finished in fourth place in the 1900-01 Football League season but were relegated in 1906.

Forest immediately earned another promotion but bounced around divisions for the better part of 50 years. The next big achievement in the Nottingham Forest stats was a 1959 FA Cup win over Luton Town. Two years earlier, Forest returned to the top flight and nearly won the league in 1967.

The club was relegated again in 1972 but Brian Clough and assistant manager Peter Taylor later took them to new heights. Forest finished third in the second division in 1977 to win promotion to the First Division once again. Incredibly, Nottingham Forest won the First Division title in their first season back and they also won the League Cup.

Nottingham Forest Team Records

Nottingham Forest’s peak was undoubtedly from 1979-1980. In 1979, Nottingham Forest won the European Cup, now the Champions League, and the League Cup once again. They also held a 42-game league unbeaten streak, that carried over from the previous season, until late 1979. Forest won on the biggest stage once again in 1980 as they retained their European Cup title. Nottingham Forest are one of just five English teams who have won the European Cup/Champions League.

Clough’s side also won back-to-back league cups in 1989 and 1990. Forest were one of the original Premier League teams but were relegated in 1993. Clough was dismissed as a result and former player Frank Clark took over. Under Clark, they returned to the Premier League and finished third in 1994-95. However, 2022-2023 marks their first Premier League season since 1998-99.

Manager Steve Cooper has turned around the club and betting advice frequently mentions their incredible form towards the tail end of the 2021-22 season. Forest are priced at -125 EPL odds to be relegated in 2022-23 but have been busy in the transfer window.
