PFC Ludogorets Stats & History

A handful of rural clubs in the Ludogorie region of Bulgaria merged to form Ludogorets Razgrad in 1945. At first, Ludogorets played in the Bulgarian third division and were promoted to the second division in 1961. In 1997, they merged with FC Antibiotic Razgrad but folded by 2005. The founder and director of FC Razgrad 2000, Aleksandr Aleksandrov, then inherited the records of PFC Ludogorets 1945.

In 2010, Ludogorets were reborn and entered the second division. At the same time, entrepreneur Kiril Domuschiev bought the team intending to earn promotion. In the club’s first season in the second division, they managed to gain promotion to the top tier.

Then, Ludogorets did what was previously thought impossible. They won the first domestic double in the PFC Ludogorets Razgrad stats in their first season in the Bulgarian First League. With a later Bulgarian Super Cup victory, they ended up winning the domestic treble in 2011-12.

Just two years after their rebirth, Ludogorets made the qualifying rounds of the Champions League. However, they were defeated by Dinamo Zagreb 4-3 on aggregate. Regardless, Ludogorets repeated as Bulgarian champions in 2012-13, as the title came down to the final matchday.

The first UEFA Europa League group stage appearance in the Ludogorets stats was in 2013-14. They won their first three matches en route to a first-place finish. Ludogorets even knocked out Lazio in the round of 32 before falling to Valencia in the round of 16. With another Bulgarian First League title, Ludogorets were back in Champions League qualifiers.

This time around, Ludogorets advanced through all three preliminary rounds to reach the group stage for the first time. However, they finished in last place in their group. Still, in just ten years, Ludogorets have made the UCL group stage on two occasions and the Europa League group stage six times.

Entering the 2022-23 season, Ludogorets are ten-time Bulgarian First Division champions. They also won the Bulgarian Cup in 2014. They’ve spent the last five seasons in the Europa League, but the Europa League odds frequently list them as underdogs. In 2021-22, they failed to win any of their six games as they finished in last place in Group F.

Betting advice in the Bulgarian First League suggests looking at their opponents’ unders. Ludogorets have conceded fewer than a goal per game in the Bulgarian league, in each of the last ten seasons.
