Arizona Betting Records Fall: Sportsbooks Make $67.7 Million
December Sees Revenue Record in Arizona Sports Betting

Arizona saw fewer sports betting dollars wagered in December 2023 than in November. But the sportsbooks managed to keep quite a bit more. The state saw Arizona betting records set for revenue in a single month in December, showing profits of $67.7 million.
The state reported $693.31 million in betting handle, which was down 2.8% from November’s $713.59 million wagered. But it’s a good sign moving for forward for the state to see two Arizona betting records in consecutive months.
Of December’s wagers, $685.10 million was wagered online, with $6.45 million coming from retail establishments. Online bets accounted for $65.25 million in revenue, with the retail sportsbooks responsible for $625,986. There was $240,604 that came from limited event wagering, with Turf Paradise horse racing track earning $106,247 of that amount.
Arizona bettors have plenty of betting options, with most of the best online gambling sites operating in the state. FanDuel took in the most wagers in December, showing a handle of $236.3 million and revenue of $23.7 million. DraftKings/Crown Gaming were a close No. 2 in handle, taking in $228.5 million.
But revue was just $13.8 million. That means FanDuel showed $9.9 million more in revenue, while taking in just $.8 million more in bets.
BetMGM was third, showing $6.1 million in revue and total bets of $82.7 million, with Caesars winding up fourth in both handle and revenue.
Collectively, the state’s sportsbooks claimed $17.8 million in free bets and promotional credits for the month. All but $4,700 came from online wagering. Sportsbooks are allowed to deduct this amount from revenue to come up with an adjusted amount, which is subject to privilege fees.
Sportsbooks pay 8% for wagers at retail sportsbooks and 10% for online wagers. Arizona stands to make slightly more than $4.8 million for the month of December.
State Approaching $70 Million in Total Payments
Since Arizona first started accepting wagers on Sept. 9, 2021, the state has seen privilege fees totaling $69.26 million based on total bets of $14.3 billion. Much of the state’s share has occurred in the last 15 months. The 2023 calendar year saw the state pocket $34.8 million.
Arizona’s cut for the first six months of the current fiscal year, which runs through June 30, 2024, has been $19.8 million. At the current rate, there will be other Arizona betting records to fall shortly.
The state saw wagers from 17 different betting outlets. Arizona trails other states in terms of releasing sports betting figures for the state. So there’s no way of knowing if Bet365, which launched on Feb. 5, 2024, is having any impact on the state’s sports betting scene.
Nonetheless it does give sports bettors another option in their search for the best online sportsbook. Bet 365 is now in nine different states across the U.S.
January’s sports betting numbers are likely to be a shade lower, with the football season coming to a close. But basketball is popular enough in the state to keep the handle from dropping too much. There are plenty of basketball fans who believe they make expert betting picks and will be getting their money down on games.
Online casinos have yet to be legalized in the state. There is no current legislation working on the legalization of online casino betting.
