Bally Bet Sportsbook Launches in Maryland
Bally Bet Live in Maryland, Bringing State to 13 Operators

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission on Monday issued an online sports betting license to Bally’s Interactive Maryland, increasing the number of available mobile sportsbooks in the state to 13.
Bally’s successfully completed a controlled demonstration of its mobile platform last week in which customers participated in live wagering. This helped ensure that all systems functioned properly.
Maryland is now the ninth U.S. state to host Bally’s, following neighboring Virginia. Bally’s has struggled to gain its footing in those other states, often falling behind its biggest competitors. The Old Line State is arguably the third biggest market in which Bally’s calls home, with New York and Ohio the top two. Bally’s also has more than a dozen retail casinos across the U.S.
The state previously added Veteran Services Corporation, which operates through Bee-Fee Limited and received a sports betting license in April 2023.
Here’s more on Bally Bet live in Maryland.
Handle on the Rise Statewide
Maryland collected $384.7 million in handle across retail and mobile accounts per the Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, a 51% increase over June 2023.
That led to more than $5.7 million in sports betting tax revenue for the state. Sports wagering contributions go to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, benefitting public education programs.
Altogether, the $5.7 million contribution was the fifth-best total for any month. It was also more than double the $2.8 million contribution from the previous year.
Betfred and SuperBook Sports, which has a partnership with the Baltimore Orioles, recently announced plans to leave Maryland.
Even so, sports bettors will still have nearly a dozen operators from which to choose, including Bally Bet live in Maryland: BetMGM, BetPARX, BetRivers, Caesars, Crab Sports, DraftKings, ESPN BET, Fanatics, FanDuel and LetsBetMD.
Micro-betting platform Betr is seeking approval to join that list after applying for a license earlier this year.
Sports betting has been operational in Maryland since Nov. 23, 2022, with state law allowing for up to 60 online sportsbooks and 30 retail sites. Seven launched right out of the gate.
Promos at Play
Sports bettors who register a new account with Bally’s qualify for its promotional bonus, in which they can get $150 in bonus bets. New customers must place a qualifying wager of at least $50 on any available sport, with minimum odds of -120 or greater. Those who are 21 or older and physically present in the state can place wagers with Bally’s.
The Rhode Island-based Bally’s has grown immensely in 2024, though it still pales in comparison to industry leaders like DraftKings and FanDuel. Bally’s recently announced plans to merge with Queen Casino & Entertainment Inc., which owns four casino properties plus Itralot SA, a global lottery management company. The deal is expected to close in early 2025, pending regulatory approval.
Presumably, that should only help its reputation in the Maryland sports betting market. Following the announcement of the merger, Bally’s share rose 25%.
