Bet MGM Delves Into Mobile Sports Betting Game in Washington D.C.

Caesars, FanDuel Up and Running, Too

This week, the mobile sports betting picture in Washington D.C. changed as lawmakers incorporated new regulations with the approval of the fiscal year 2025 budgets. This significant development impacts DC Sports Betting, opening up new opportunities for bettors in the district.

Bet MGM on Wednesday took advantage of the opportunity and now has mobile sports betting in a two-block radius around Nationals Park, further enhancing the DC Sports Betting landscape.

BetMGM will retain exclusivity for the two-block radius surrounding Nationals Park where it operates the BetMGM Sportsbook as part of a multi-year partnership with the Washington Nationals.

After three years of bringing unparalleled, omnichannel experiences to sports fans and supporting the D.C. metropolitan community through our partnership with the Washington Nationals, fans can now bet on their favorite teams with BetMGM across the District with our award-winning mobile app,” said Adam Greenblatt, Chief Executive Officer, BetMGM. BetMGM currently operates in 29 markets with mobile and retail offerings.

FanDuel was up and running, but on Tuesday, it took its app down because the budget was not approved. With the budget set, FanDuel and Caesars were running, too.

By waiting for the 2025 budget approval, FanDuel gained a financial benefit it would have lost if it hadn’t taken down its app on Tuesday.

Who Can Bet Where in D.C.?

Legal Sports Report presented the sports betting options people have in Washington D.C. They differ for each company. FanDuel is (for now) the only app that can legally offer betting options from anywhere in Washington.

From Marbury Point to the North Corner Boundary Stone, FanDuel is available to anyone over the age of 18 with an internet-connected device.

The other two online sportsbooks in DC are Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook. While both sportsbooks lead the market, specific zones within the district restrict them. Consequently, their availability is limited based on your location.

So, Caesars is available if you are in the vicinity of Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. Additionally, BetMGM will allow you to bet if you are near Nationals Park, the Washington Nationals’ field. Otherwise, your only option for DC Sports Betting is FanDuel.
