Pat McAfee Blasts Bill Simmons For Failed Parlay

The Two Media Personalities Escalate Their Beef

McAfee Roasts Simmons Over FanDuel Parlay

Rivalries in sports are common. But what if it’s two sports media personalities like Pat McAfee and Bill Simmons? The former wasted no time going after his media rival by roasting his alleged failed parlay, which was sponsored by FanDuel. “That’s a huge number that did not hit,” Pat McAfee blasted Bill Simmons over his show, The Pat McAfee Show on Monday. Something tells us there is still more to this beef.

McAfee vs Simmons: What’s Beef?

There is history here. One does not simply put a peer on blast unless they were 1) great friends; or 2) bitter rivals. And judging by how Pat McAfee blasted Bill Simmons on his show, it’s safe to assume they are not friends.

“I think Bill Simmons, who has it all figured out, I think he had like 8,000 people riding alongside him,” McAfee said on The Pat McAfee Show. “That’s a huge number that did not hit. That’s really big. Really good, Bill. You still have it. I think we had 250,000 people or something like that. Keep running your mouth, Bill.”

McAfee appeared to be going after Simmons for something he said. And it may be Simmons’ impersonation of McAfee on his podcast, The Bill Simmons Podcast.

“McAfee has created a new version of how to do this,” Simmons said during a discussion regarding the way NFL headlines are discussed on a daily basis. “He starts the show, and then he’ll be like, ‘Cowboys, bro, I don’t know man. I don’t know. What’s going on there, bro?’ And then it cuts to his three people, and they’re like, ‘I don’t know.’

That’s the tip of how Simmons went on a sardonic impersonation of McAfee and how he set up his show. McAfee appeared to not take too kindly to that he let Simmons have it following his alleged high-profile sports betting blunder.

The Sports Betting Angle: FanDuel Frenemies?

There is another degree of connection between Pat McAfee who blasted Bill Simmons earlier. The former was formerly a proponent of FanDuel as he signed multi-million dollar deals to promote the sportsbook. This was before McAfee signed an even bigger deal to be exclusive to ESPN, which just opened its online gambling book: ESPN Bet.

So McAfee hectoring Simmons could be a two-in-one shot at both he and his old sportsbook, FanDuel. Simmons lost a bet online while failing to draw in many bettors compared to what he, allegedly, had for ESPN.

Simmons’ lost parlay in question still has yet to be revealed. But knowing the wiley former ESPN personality, he’ll have something to say about McAfee and his “losing bet”. The 54-year-old has frequently touted bets of all forms either through his podcast or via The Ringer or other media. McAfee can make a long list of Simmons’ failed bets if he so chooses.

Keep an eye on this brewing beef stew as the outspoken hosts could go back and forth over their shows through the weeks.
