WNBA’s DraftKings Deal Shows Growth of Sport
DraftKings Joins FanDuel as Fantasy Sports, Sports Betting Partner

Even though DraftKings has committed itself to cutting down on the number of partnerships it’s involved with, the sportsbook inked a new deal with the WNBA. Financial terms weren’t announced, but DraftKings had to be drawn by the growth the league is seeing this season.
Television viewership is up nearly 300% from last year, with rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese playing a factor in that. the WNBA’s DraftKings deal is a good sign for the league.
“The WNBA is growing and expanding across the board, and partnering with industry leaders like DraftKings enables us to offer WNBA fans additional ways to engage with their favorite teams and players, responsibly and with integrity, this opportunity for DraftKings to lean in with us to support women’s sports will welcome more fans to the WNBA. We’re looking forward to working alongside DraftKings to further enhance innovation and equity in women’s sports.” said WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison.
DraftKings CEO Jason Robbins said last year the company wanted to cut back on deals with teams and leagues. He has made several exceptions and the WNBA’s DraftKings deal is one of them.
It does make sense, however, as this is the ideal time to partner with the league. There is a tremendous amount of fan interest in the league.
Clark is one of the most recognizable female athletes around. The league’s new media deal should net the league close to $200 million annually. Things are looking good for the WNBA.
“The WNBA is rapidly expanding its reach and DraftKings has an unmatched ability to further generate additional fan engagement, I am looking forward to seeing DraftKings elevate the WNBA’s fan experience in the midst of this record-breaking season.” said DraftKings Talent Ambassador Lisa Leslie.
DraftKings Receives Increased Access to League
As an official partner, DraftKings can “utilize official WNBA data feeds to support the gameplay experience for fans.” DraftKings will also receive increased media exposure as presenting partner of the “WNBA Postseason Push.” That will be a new WNBA content platform.
It will feature league highlights, social integrations, and odds updates focused on the latest WNBA standings throughout the final two weeks of the regular season.
From that perspective, the WNBA’s DraftKings deal appears to be a ‘win-win’ situation for the league and the sportsbook. Only time will tell, but the WNBA is doing something right to get DraftKings to stray from its fewer partnerships mentality.
“The WNBA has seen tremendous growth, which continues to be a bright spot in the sports world. We are proud to support the league in its efforts to continue expanding the game,” said Matt Kalish, President, DraftKings North America. “It is a priority for us to deliver the most engaging WNBA content to DraftKings’ platforms and through our collaboration with the WNBA this season, we will be able to enhance the experience for millions of our customers and WNBA fans.”
DraftKings is now operating in 27 states and in Ontario, Canada. The sportsbook is also involved in online casino gaming. It operates in five states and Ontario under the DraftKings casino brand. DraftKings uses its Golden Nugget Online Gaming brand in three states.
