Getafe Stats History
Getafe was established in 1923 and they started out in the lower leagues. The club had humble beginnings as their original stadium, Campo del Regimiento de Artillería, didn’t have goal posts. They later moved to the San Isidro and earned promotion to the third tier in 1957.
The Azulones gained promotion to the Segunda Division for the first time in 1976 but didn’t find much success. In six seasons in the Segunda Division, Getafe failed to finish tenth or higher in the standings. One of the more impressive Getafe team stats is their 3-3 draw with Barcelona in the round of 16 of the 1978 Copa Del Rey. However, Barcelona won the return leg, 8-0.
In 1982, Getafe were unable to pay their players and the club was liquidated as a result. Resurrected one year later under current name Getafe CF, they started play in the seventh tier of Spanish soccer. They won their division in three consecutive seasons, which meant three straight promotions. Due to league expansion, Getafe were also promoted in 1987.
They spent seven seasons in the third tier before returning to the Segunda Division once again. Getafe moved into their current stadium, the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, in 1998. They secured a historic promotion to La Liga in 2004, 81 years after they were first founded.

They played in European competition for the first time in 2008 and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. Since 2004, Getafe have spent just one season in the second division and finished a club-high fifth in La Liga in 2018-19.
