Levante UD Stats & History
Founded as Levante Football Club in 1909, Levante are the oldest club in Valencia. Levante first played in the second division in 1934-35 and won their first national title in 1937. During the Spanish Civil War a tournament called the Copa de la España Libre was organized. Levante defeated city rivals Valencia 1-0 in the final.
An important year for the Levante UD stats was in 1939. They merged with local club Gimnastico and were renamed Levante Union Deportiva. Despite the merger, the club wouldn’t reach La Liga until the 1960s. In 1963, Levante were runners up in their second division group but won the promotion playoffs to reach the top tier.
In their first season in La Liga, Levante won both Derby del Turias over rivals Valencia. Despite those notable moments in the Levante UD stats, they were relegated after just one season. Levante spent the vast majority of their time over the next couple of decades in the second and third divisions.

Dutch legend Johan Cryuff briefly played for Levante in 1981 before returning to Ajax in his home country. Levante won the La Liga Segunda Division for the first time in 2004. However, their stay in La Liga was once again limited to just one season.
Two seasons later, Levante finished in third in the second division and returned to La Liga. This time, they managed to avoid relegation in their first season back, finishing 15th. Unfortunately, they finished in last place in 2007-08 and were back in the Segunda Division.
The most successful period in club history was the 2010s. They returned to La Liga in 2010 and transcended their La Liga odds in 2011-12. That season, they finished in sixth place and qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. Levante made the last sixteen of the Europa League in 2012-13 but lost to Rubin Kazan.
Relegation in 2016 ended Levante’s longest-ever spell in the top flight, six seasons. They returned to La Liga in 2017 and made the semifinals of the Copa Del Rey in 2021. Levante are currently playing in La Liga 2 after finishing in 19th in 2021-22. Betting advice suggests Levante could be contenders for promotion. They have only finished outside of the promotion/playoff spots once in their last six second division seasons.
