Boston Red Sox Stats & Team History
The Boston Red Sox were one of the founding members of the MLB back in 1901. They started as the Boston Americans, but in 1907 changed to the Red Sox. In the league’s early years, the Red Sox were one of the most dominant teams, winning five World Series in the first 15 years of the league’s construction. The Red Sox team stats reflected the constant winning of the team’s early years.
However, they proceeded to go on one of the longest championship droughts in American Sports history. The drought lasted 86 years, and the time was dubbed the “Curse of the Bambino,” named after Babe Ruth, whom they had traded to rival New York Yankees. The Boston Red Sox team’s stats stayed constant, making it to the World Series during that time, but never winning due to odd circumstances that only a curse can explain. They ended the curse in 2004 and have won three since, for a total of nine, the third most in MLB history.
