Kansas City Royals Stats & Team History
The Kansas City Royals were founded in 1969, playing their first season as an expansion franchise that season. They took the place of the Kansas City Athletics, who had moved to Oakland. It did not take long for the Royals to find their rhythm, having their first winning season just three years after entering the league. From 1976 to 1985, the Royals were one of the best teams in the league, making seven playoff runs. They went to two World Series, and won one. The Royals team stats reflect that time.
The Kansas City Royals team stats would suffer after their first World Series, as they missed out on the playoffs for the next 28 seasons, only having a winning record in eight seasons. That streak ended in 2013. They kept improving, since they went to the World Series as a Wild Card in 2014, but lost 4-3 to the San Francisco Giants. They would make the World Series the very next year, this time winning 4-1 against the Mets for their second championship.
