CF Montreal Stats & History

Montreal Impact, now CF Montreal, began playing in MLS in 2012 but their history dates back further than that. They debuted in the American Professional Soccer League in 1992 and played in the lower leagues for 20 years. A Canadian club, Montreal won seven Canadian Championships before joining MLS. They also managed three A-League championships in the CF Montreal team stats.

The Impact were the third Canadian club to be admitted to MLS, after Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps. In their first season, Montreal finished in seventh in the Eastern Conference, missing out on the playoffs. They were quite competitive, though, with 42 points from 34 games.

Montreal made the playoffs for the first time in 2013 and won the Voyageurs Cup, by winning the Canadian Championship. As a result, they qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League. The Impact repeated and won the Voyageurs Cup again in 2014, despite having the worst record in Major League Soccer.

In their ensuing CONCACAF Champions League campaign, they were runners up to Club America. Italian veteran striker Marco di Vaio led the Impact in scoring in both 2013 and 2014.

With Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Ignacio Piatti in 2015, Montreal managed their best-ever league finish. They finished third in the Eastern Conference and defeated rivals Toronto 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs. The Impact was narrowly knocked out in the second round by the Columbus Crew.

Montreal managed their best-ever playoff performance in 2016 and made the Eastern Conference finals. They missed out on playoff qualification from 2017-2019, though. It didn’t stop them from adding another Voyageurs Cup into the Club de Foot Montreal team stats in 2019.

In 2021, Impact changed its name to Club de Foot Montreal, or CF Montreal for short. CF Montreal won the Canadian Championship again in 2021 and made the quarterfinals of the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League. They also announced that they’ll go by CF Montreal alone starting in 2023.

Midway through the 2022 MLS season, CF Montreal was in playoff position. Betting advice frequently mentions that the over has been a solid pick in their matches thus far this season. Through 21 games, only San Jose’s matches have involved more goals than Montreal’s. The midseason MLS odds implied CF Montreal was a dark horse title contender, at +2500.
