Vancouver Whitecaps FC Stats & History
MLS announced Vancouver would get the 17th MLS team in 2009. The original Vancouver Whitecaps played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the 70s and 80s. The Whitecaps were later revived and won two championships in the 2000s in the USL.
The Vancouver Whitecaps played their inaugural MLS season in 2011 and finished with the worst record in the league. They improved in the 2012 season and made the first playoff appearance in the Vancouver Whitecaps team stats. In 2013, the Whitecaps missed out on the playoffs again but Camilo Sanvezza was the league’s leading scorer. From 2011 to 2013, the Whitecaps made the final of the Canadian Championship but lost in three straight years.Â
In 2014, they registered their second playoff appearance in the Whitecaps team stats. Still, they were unable to get past the first round. The Whitecaps had their best-ever season in 2015, though. Vancouver finished second in the Western Conference and won the Canadian Championship for the first time. They participated in the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in 2015-16.Â

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Team Records
Vancouver managed their best performance in the CONCACAF Champions League in 2016-17 when they made the semifinals. Then, in 2017, Vancouver won a playoff match for the first time. They demolished the San Jose Earthquakes 5-0 in the first round but fell to the Seattle Sounders in the conference semifinals.Â
The Whitecaps went on to miss the playoffs in the next three seasons. They did, however, return to the playoffs in 2021 but they remain without a Conference final or MLS Cup berth. In July 2022, Vancouver won their second Canadian Championship, or Voyageurs’ Cup, by defeating Toronto FC in penalties.
Midway through the 2022 season, the Whitecaps sat at +5000 MLS odds to win their first title. However, they were outside of a playoff berth and had the second-worst goal difference in the Western Conference through 22 matches. Betting advice has noted that Vancouver is a decent home team. In their first 12 matches at BC Place Stadium, they lost just three of them.
