Team History
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions started their second stint in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 1998 under head coach Harold Blevins. He stayed at the helm until 2002 and finished his career with a 13-96 record. The Golden Lions never finished with more than six wins and never finished with less than 20 losses.
Van Holt became head coach in 2002. For Holt’s first three seasons, the Golden Lions posted a 12-71 overall record. Holt and the Golden Lions turned things around in his next three seasons. While they didn’t win any conference titles, they went on to win 38 combined games over the next three seasons. Holt finished his career in 2007-2008 with a 50-124 overall record.
Coach George Ivory
George Ivory took over in 2008 and picked up right where Holt left off. Ivory led the Golden Lions to an 18-16 overall record and a 14-4 conference record in just his second year. The Golden Lions went on to win the SWAC Conference Championship and got their first invite to the NCAA Tournament. They beat Winthrop 61-44 in the opening round. Unfortunately, they lost to Duke in the first round.
Ivory stayed at the helm until 2021. The Golden Lions enjoyed just one more winning season under him in 2013 where they finished 16-14 overall and 15-3 in conference play. Ivory ended his career as the Golden Lions’ head coach with a 140-269 overall record.
Solomon Bozeman has been the coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff since 2021. He currently has an 11-34 overall record.
