Overview of the Fordham Rams Standings

Last-Season Standings

The Fordham Rams had a competitive 2021-2022 season in NCAA basketball. While their record of 16-16 was not enough to earn them a spot in the postseason tournament, the team showed promise and potential throughout the season.

Led by head coach Kyle Neptune in his first year with the team, the Rams worked hard to establish a strong team culture and identity. They faced some tough opponents throughout the season, but were able to secure key victories against teams like Dayton and St. Bonaventure.

Despite facing some adversity and injuries throughout the season, the Rams remained resilient and determined. They continued to improve and make progress as the season went on, with several players stepping up and making significant contributions to the team’s success.

Looking ahead to the future, the Fordham Rams will continue to work hard and build on the progress made during the 2021-2022 NCAAB season. With a solid foundation in place and a talented coaching staff, the team has the potential to climb up the Fordham Rams Standings and make a deeper run in the postseason in the coming years.

Fordham Rams Basketball History

The Fordham Rams are a Division I program located in Bronx, N.Y. Fordham has been a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference since 1995 and plays its home games at the historic Rose Hill Gymnasium. Opened in 1925, it’s the nation’s oldest on-campus arena that still primarily hosts Division I basketball.

Fordham has been to the NCAA Tournament four times, albeit not since 1992. Its only postseason appearance since then was a first-round loss to Boston University in the 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Hoping to change their fortunes, the Rams tabbed former Villanova assistant Kyle Neptune to be their new head coach before the 2021-22 campaign. Neptune, a native New Yorker who had learned under Jay Wright during two national championship runs, delivered instant results. He guided the Rams to a 16-16 record in his first season, their first time finishing .500 or better since 2016.

Wright’s Surprising Retirement

However, when Wright surprisingly retired the following offseason, Villanova successfully lured Neptune back as his replacement. In turn, Fordham promoted associate head coach Keith Urgo to take over for Neptune.

Facing long NCAAB odds entering Urgo’s first season, the Rams were ranked 11th in the A-10 preseason poll.

As it is, the Rams have yet to win a championship since joining the A-10 nearly three decades ago. Their last regular season and tournament championships came in 1994 and 1992, respectively. In both cases, they still were a member of the Patriot League.

The Rams’ postseason history also includes 16 appearances in the National Invitational Tournament. They’re 5-17 all-time in the event, with one semifinal appearance (1943). The school most recently made the NIT in 1991.

The program has retired three numbers — Bob Mullens’ No. 7, Ed Conlin’s No. 11, and Ken Charles’ No. 44 — and its alumni base includes former NBA head coach P.J. Carlesimo. Carlesimo played at Fordham from 1968-71 under multiple coaches, including Digger Phelps.
