Before Betting on Georgia Tech, Check Out These Tips:

Monitor the NCAAB Team’s Injury Report

Before betting on any team, it’s important to stay informed about any key players who may be out due to injury or suspension. Knowing who is playing and who is not can have a big impact on the outcome of a game.

Monitor Latest Basketball Trends and Statistics

Look at how the team has been performing in their recent games. Are they on a winning streak or a losing streak? This information can give you an indication of their momentum heading into the game you are betting on. Additionally, consider other factors such as recent changes in coaching staff or key player departures.

Look at College Basketball Betting Trends and Odds

Betting odds and trends can be valuable tools for betting on sports. Pay attention to the odds offered by different sportsbooks and look for patterns in the betting trends. If a significant percentage of bettors are backing one team, it may be an indication that the odds are more favorable for that team. However, it’s important to keep in mind that betting trends and odds are not always reliable indicators of the outcome of a game.

Consider the NCAA Team’s Overall Talent Level

Look at both individual and team statistics to get a sense of their performance. You can also compare these statistics to their opponents to see how they match up.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Basketball History

It’s hard to talk about Georgia Tech basketball without first mentioning Bobby Cremins, the man who took the program to national prominence in the 1980s. The Yellow Jackets were a mostly mediocre unit before then, making just one NCAA Tournament appearance in 1960.

Long before that, the program took root in the early part of the 20th century and once boasted John Heisman (yes, that Heisman) as its head coach. Decades later, in 1955, Georgia Tech gained some national notoriety by defeating No. 1 Kentucky in Lexington, snapping the Wildcats’ 129-game home win streak.

That first tournament team came five years later and the run ended with a loss to eventual national champ Ohio State, which boasted John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas and a fiery guard named Bob Knight.

Whack Hyder led that team to 23 wins and won 292 overall in 22 years at the helm, but he never made it back to the NCAA Tournament. There were some down years as an independent team in the 1970s and a mediocre three-season run in the Metro toward the end of the decade before the Yellow Jackets became the ACC’s eighth team in 1979-80.

That team managed one conference win and the next season’s squad had zero, finishing 0-14 and 4-23 overall, with all four wins coming against non-Division I opponents. It was a bottoming out, for sure, but Cremins would take over the following season (1981-82) and usher in an era of consistent success in Atlanta.

Cremins Court

What is now called “Cremins Court” played host to nine straight NCAA Tournament teams from 1985 through 1993. The Yellow Jackets became synonymous with outstanding point guard play during the era, as Mark Price, Kenny Anderson and Travis Best all starred at the position. Stephon Marbury’s one collegiate season came for Cremins in 1995-96, as he helped a star-studded team with Matt Harpring and Drew Barry reach the Sweet 16.

That team went 13-3 in the ACC en route to winning the conference regular-season crown and it showcased a well-oiled offensive machine. Yellow Jackets team stats had the team ranked 28th in the country in field-goal percentage, 36th in 3-point percentage and 19th in assists.

Cremins’ teams finished under .500 in three of his last four seasons before he gave way to Paul Hewitt, who led the program to five more NCAA Tournament appearances in 11 seasons. The best of those campaigns was in 2003-04 when the Yellow Jackets won 28 games behind another great point guard, Jarrett Jack.

The NCAAB odds for a long tourney run were pretty good after Georgia Tech gained a No. 3 seed, but not many expected them to dash to the title game, where they lost 82-73 to Connecticut.

The Yellow Jackets have mostly struggled to keep their heads above water in recent years, but the 2020-21 edition snapped a long spell without a tourney berth by giving the selection committee a solid resume that included an 11-6 ACC mark. Seniors Jose Alvarado and Moses Wright then went on to the NBA and last season’s squad fell to 14th in the ACC in Josh Pastner’s sixth season as head coach.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets NCAAB FAQs

What is the highest win total in program history?

Both of the Yellow Jackets’ Final Four runs were in their two winningest seasons, 1989-90 and 2003-04, when they won 28 games. They were only a combined 17-13 in ACC play in those two seasons.

What was the worst season in program history?

The 1953-54 Georgia Tech squad was 2-22 and 0-14 in SEC action.

Who is the greatest player in program history?

The NYC legend averaged 20.6 points with an ACC-leading 8.1 assists and 2.3 steals as a freshman. The following season, he topped the ACC in scoring (25.9) and steals (3.0) and was fourth in assists (5.6).
