Overview of the Miami Hurricanes Standings
Last-Season Standings
Last season’s team finished with a 7-22 record, including a 3-15 record in ACC play. The team was led by junior guard Isaiah Wong, who averaged 17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
Miami struggled early in the season, losing their first six games. They then won their next two games, but went on to lose 13 of their next 14 games. They closed out the regular season with a win over Boston College, but were then eliminated in the first round of the ACC Tournament by Wake Forest.
Looking ahead to the 2023 NCAAB season, Miami will be looking to bounce back and improve on their record from last year. With Wong returning as a senior, the team will be looking for him to continue to lead the way. They will also be looking for contributions from other players, such as sophomore guard Jordan Miller and junior forward Anthony Walker.
Before Betting on Miami, Check Out These Tips:
Monitor the NCAAB Team’s Injury Report
It’s important to stay informed on any player suspensions or injuries, as these can greatly impact a team’s performance. Consider how the team has performed without key players in the past and whether any potential suspensions or injuries may affect their upcoming games.
Monitor Latest Basketball Trends and Statistics
Look at the team’s overall statistics, such as points per game, field goal percentage, and rebounds per game. Additionally, consider the statistics of individual players, such as scoring leaders and top rebounders, to get a better understanding of the team’s strengths and weaknesses.
Look at College Basketball Betting Trends and Odds
Look at the betting trends for the Hurricanes and their opponents. Are they consistently beating the spread or consistently losing against it? This can give you a good idea of how the public views the team and whether they may be over or undervalued in the betting market.
Consider the NCAA Team’s Overall Talent Level
College basketball is filled with talented players who are in the early stages of their careers. Take a look at the level of talent on the roster, including any highly-touted prospects or players with professional potential. Strong individual talent can often have a positive impact on a team’s overall performance.
Miami Hurricanes Basketball History
Beginnings
The men’s basketball team at Miami has certainly taken a back seat to the football program over the years, most notably from 1971 through 1985 when there wasn’t even a basketball program, to begin with. Despite some solid years as an independent (the team won at least 20 games five times in the 1960s and boasted superstar Rick Barry), the administration dropped the program for those 14 years.
The Hurricanes were reborn on the hardwood under Bill Foster, the former Clemson coach, in 1985-86 and they won their first three games en route to a 14-14 season. Leonard Hamilton took over before the 1990-91 season and Miami moved to the Big East the following year.
The team would struggle to an 8-46 record in Big East action over its first three years, finishing last twice and second-to-last once. The rise to respectability began in 1995-96 when the squad finished 9-9 in the Big East and earned an NIT berth, the program’s first postseason entry since 1964.
Streak of 3 Straight NCAA Tourney Berths
Three years later Hamilton’s bunch began a streak of three straight NCAA Tournament berths, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2000 with an upset of No. 3 seed Ohio State. That team was the Big East regular season champs as well, as Miami Hurricanes team stats showcased the stingiest team in the league, giving up an average of just 62.6 points.
NCAAB odds for Miami basketball were improving, but the program would reach the tournament just two times over the next 12 seasons, including once in its first eight years in the ACC.
Jim Larranaga took over as head coach before the 2011-12 season and needed just one year to author perhaps the best season in program history. That 2012-13 edition stunned the ACC by winning the regular season crown, scoring a 27-point win over top-ranked Duke along the way.
Led by star guard Shane Larkin, the Hurricanes also won the 2013 ACC tournament title before making it to the second weekend of the March Madness. A loss to Marquette in the Sweet 16 ended things but Larranaga got them just as far again in 2016 and one round further in 2022.
