Overview of the USC Trojans Standings
Last-Season Standings
The California Trojans basketball team had a disappointing season in the 2021-2022 campaign, finishing with an overall record of 9-23 and a Pac-12 Conference record of 3-15. The team finished in last place in the Pac-12 Conference standings, which was a significant setback for the program.
Throughout the season, the California Trojans struggled to find consistent success, both offensively and defensively. The team averaged just 66.5 points per game, which was the lowest in the Pac-12 Conference, and allowed 75.6 points per game, which was the second-highest in the conference.
Despite the team’s struggles, there were some bright spots. Guard Andre Kelly emerged as a top scorer for the California Trojans, averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Forward Kuany Kuany also had a strong season, averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
However, the California Trojans’ season was marred by inconsistency and a lack of cohesion, which was reflected in their poor California Trojans standings. The team suffered several losses to unranked opponents, and their losses to ranked opponents were often blowouts.
Looking forward, the California Trojans will need to regroup and reassess their strategy to rebound from this disappointing season. The team will need to work on improving both their offense and defense, as well as finding better team chemistry. With talented players like Kelly and Kuany returning next season, the team has the potential to improve and make a stronger showing in the Pac-12 Conference.

USC Trojans Basketball History
Overall
There is a plethora of history rooted deep in the USC Trojans men’s basketball history. The first official game in the school’s history was an interclass game. It would take years before the program received any attention from the national stage as it joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1922.
In 1928, under Leo Calland’s leadership, the Trojans won their first conference title, defeating the Washington Huskies in the final game of the conference championship series as numerous football coaches served as basketball coaches. After former USC basketball and football assistant Leo Calland left USC to become head coach and athletic director at the University of Idaho in 1929, legendary USC coach Howard Jones had to hire a new assistant and the university had to find a new basketball coach.
Sam Barry would become a crucial part of building the foundation of the program. He would bring the groundwork to the triangle offense, which would change how the game of basketball is played. However, the job was far from over because it would take at least another decade before the team made an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Due to his service in WWII, Barry would not be the coach full-time. Barry would return as he was discharged from the navy after the Japanese surrendered. Barry suffered an untimely death, but he remains the school’s most successful coach.
After the school’s Final Four appearance in 1954, when the odds were the greatest, the school would find more consistency after the 1980s. Stan Morrison had a 103-95 record at USC in seven seasons and won the Pac-10 championship in 1985. The Trojans reached two NCAA tournaments under George Raveling’s leadership in 1987 and 1988., and had a record that was slightly under .500 during his tenure.
Early 2000s
Things started swaying the program’s way in the early 2000s to the present day. Towards the Henry Bibby era, the program would find an array of success as the USC team stats showed before eventually getting fired. In that span, he would lead them to several NCAA appearances, including an Elite 8 showdown with the Duke Blue Devils.
The 2008–09 squad featured All-American forward DeMar DeRozan, who decided to play close to home over other major programs like Florida State and Arizona State. In the second round, they lost 74–69 to eventual runner-up Michigan State Spartans after defeating the Boston College Eagles in the opening round.
The University of Southern California announced on January 3, 2010, that it had implemented self-imposed sanctions for NCAA rules violations relating to O. J. Mayo. One of the sanctions on the list included a postseason competition ban for a year.
In charge of the team since 2013, Andy Enfield is poised to restore the team’s greatness. The 2016 appearance was a tough one to forget, as they would lose by one to the Providence Friars in the first round. In 2017, the First Four team would make it to the second round.
In 2021, future top-three NBA Draft pick, Evan Mobley, took the school to the Elite 8 but eventually ran into trouble against the eventual runner-up Gonzaga Bulldogs. The following year, they lost a back-and-forth game to the Miami Hurricanes in the first round.
Andy Enfield will be entering his ninth season with the program. The USC Trojans have decent NCAAB odds to make the tournament once again but have the fourth-best odds to win the conference.
