The TCU Horned Frogs standings men’s basketball team had a challenging season during the 2021-2022 campaign. Horned Frogs Basketball History

The TCU Horned Frogs standings inaugural season came in 1908. The Horned Frogs had no winning NCAAB seasons for their first 13 seasons. Their first winning season came in 1921 under coach W.L. Driver.

The Horned Frogs joined the SouthWest Conference after the 1922-1923 season. They won their first two SWC Championships in 1931 and 1934 under coach Francis Schmidt. He led the Horned Frogs to a 46–6–5 combined record in his five year stint.

Free Horned Frogs enjoyed just three winning seasons from 1934 until 1948.

Buster Brannon became head coach at TCU in 1948. After starting with a 18-31 combined record in his first two years, the Horned Frogs were SWC champs for the next three seasons. The 1951-1952 Horned Frogs won 24 games. Under Brannon the Horned Frogs appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times. After finishing 20-6 in 1958, the Horned Frogs wouldn’t have another winning record for nearly 10 seasons.

Johnny Swaim became head coach after the 1966-1967 season. In his first season the Horned Frogs finished with a 15-11 record. They won the SWC and went to the Elite Eight. It was their first and lone time going to the Elite Eight in program history. Swaim led the Horned Frogs to another SWC Championship and NCAA Tournament.

Jim Killingsworth coached the Horned Frogs from 1979-1987. They were mostly average with him at the helm. However, the ‘85 and 86’ seasons were successful. In 1985 they finished 22-9 overall and 12-4 in conference play. In 1986, they finished 24-7 overall and 14-2 in conference play. They won the conference title in both seasons and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the ‘86 season.

Moe Iba coached the Horned Frogs from 1987-1994. They had four straight winning seasons from 1988-1991. They never made the NCAA Tournament but they did make the NIT in 1991.

Billy Tubbs was at the helm from 1994-2001. After his first two seasons, the Horned Frogs joined the Western Athletic Conference.

The 1997-1998 season was especially good for the Horned Frogs. They finished with 27 wins, which tied for the most wins in program history. They finished 14-0 in conference play and won the WAC. They finished with a winning record in each of Tubbs’ eight seasons. The Horned Frogs moved to Conference USA after the 2000-2001 season. Tubbs finished his stint at TCU with a 156–95 overall record.

Neil Dougherty became head coach at TCU in 2001. During his six-year stint, the Horned Frogs finished with just one winning record. Additionally, they moved from Conference USA to the Mountain West Conference in 2005. Dougherty was out after the 2007-2008 season after finishing with a combined 75–108 record.

Jim Christian was next up but the Horned Frogs still couldn’t make any drastic jumps. He led them to just one winning season and a 56–73 combined record after four seasons. Their lone winning season came in Christian’s last season at the helm.

Trent Johnson was next up. He coached the Horned Frogs from 2012-2016. The Horned Frogs moved to the Big 12 before the 2012 season. Johnson led TCU to just one winning season.

Jamie Dixon has been head coach since 2016. In his first season, they won 20 games for the first time since 2004. In his second season, the Horned Frogs made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 seasons. The TCU Horned Frogs standings have finished with just one losing season under Dixon.
