Team History
The Army Black Knights are a Division 1 FBS Football team based in West Point, New York. Initially founded in 1890, Army has an overall record of 716–536–51. Their first game was against the Naval Academy on November 29th, 1890, at West Point. Navy beat Army that game, but the Cadets won the rematch in Annapolis the next year. This rivalry between the Army/Navy has been played every single year in early December, often as the last Division I regular season game of that year.
From 1944 to 1950, the Cadets posted a record of 57-3-4, winning three straight national championships during that span from 1944 to 1946. Around this time, newspaper writers referred to the team as the “Black Knights on the Hudson”, which led to people using the Cadets and Black Knights nicknames interchangeably. In 1999, the program officially became the Army Black Knights. In ten bowl game appearances, Army has an overall record of 7-3, with appearances in five of the last six seasons.
