Central Michigan Chippewas – NCAAF History
The Central Michigan Chippewas are a Division 1 FBS Football team based in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Founded in 1896, Central Michigan has an overall record of 635–433–36. The Chippewas had a string of success in the 1950s and late 1960s, winning eight conference championships in the now defunct Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference under head coach Kenneth “Wild Bill” Kelly, after which part of the current stadium is named.
After decades with little success, Central Michigan re-emerged as a perennial bowl team at the start of the 21st century, with 11 college bowl appearances since 2006 and including a string of five games within the last seven seasons. Overall, the Chippewas have gone 4-9 in 13 bowl appearances throughout the program’s history
