Kent State Golden Flashes – NCAAF History
First Decades of the Kent State Golden Flashes
The Kent State Golden Flashes are a Division I FBS football team based in Kent, Ohio. Founded in 1920, Kent State has an overall record of 324-505-28. The Golden Flashes didn’t have much success in the first few decades of the program, but upon joining the Mid-American Conference in 1951, Kent State reached the Tangerine Bowl in 1954, their first of five overall bowl appearances.
Coach Hazell Leads to Conference Title Game
After dozens of mediocre seasons to wrap up the 20th century, Kent State saw a boost in production under head coach Darrell Hazell. The Kent State Golden Flashes stats skyrocketed as the 2012 team went 11-3, culminating with their first Mid-American Conference East Division title and their first conference title game, losing to Northern Illinois in double overtime 44-37.
