Northern Illinois Huskies – NCAAF History
The Northern Illinois Huskies are a Division 1 FBS Football team based in DeKalb, Illinois. Founded in 1897, Northern Illinois stats have an overall record of 562-479-51. The Huskies have a strong history of winning, with an AP College Division National Championship in 1963 and numerous Division and Conference titles, mostly after the turn of the 21st Century in the Mid-American Conference.
Struggle After Struggle
After years of mediocrity during the ’80s and ’90s, Northern Illinois began to turn its program around after rejoining the Mid-American Conference in 1997, clinching a share or outright winning 12 Division Titles and in 2012, The Huskies became the first ever MAC school to reach a BCS Bowl berth when they played Florida State in the Orange Bowl, losing to the Seminoles 31-10.
Coming off a winless short season in 2020. the Huskies team stats improved as they rallied to a 9-5 record and another MAC Championship, defeating Kent State in the title game 41-23. Northern Illinois has struggled in Bowl Games over the years, with a 4-10 mark overall.
