Struggle After Struggle

After years of mediocrity during the ’80s and ’90s, Northern Illinois began to turn its program around after rejoining the Mid-American Conference in 1997, clinching a share or outright winning 12 Division Titles and in 2012, The Huskies became the first ever MAC school to reach a BCS Bowl berth when they played Florida State in the Orange Bowl, losing to the Seminoles 31-10.

Coming off a winless short season in 2020. the Huskies team stats improved as they rallied to a 9-5 record and another MAC Championship, defeating Kent State in the title game 41-23. Northern Illinois has struggled in Bowl Games over the years, with a 4-10 mark overall.
