Adames vs Williams Betting Odds: Second Opportunity For Middleweights
Interim Middleweight Belt is the Ticket to a Big Fight

Adames Favored Moderately Against Williams
Carlos Adames and Julian Williams get one last crack at the “big leagues” in this WBC interim middleweight title fight. The winner of this bout will likely challenge Jermall Charlo in a unification bout. The Adames vs Williams betting odds favor the champion, Adames, to defend his belt and creep closer to that big-money fight. But a loss here could end any title contention for either boxer.

Williams Eyes Two-Division Status and Another Shot at Charlo
And just like that, Williams is back in the game. After dropping two consecutive bouts, including an upset knockout to Jeison Rosario, Williams defeated Rolando Wenceslao Mansilla to earn a shot at this interim title a weight class up.
Williams was the former unified light middleweight champion after defeating Jarrett Hurd in one of 2019’s best fights. Had he beaten Rosario as the boxing odds expected, he may have booked a rematch against Charlo. Still, it speaks to Williams’s status as a veteran that he’s found a backdoor back into title contention.
“Training has been going great, and I’m extremely well-prepared for this fight,” said Williams to Boxing Scene. “I’ve just been grinding and making the best of everything that I have. I haven’t seen that much of him, so I’m preparing for anything Adames can bring. A win on June 24 would mean everything.”
Williams is the +325 underdog on the Adames vs Williams betting odds. He was as large as a +550 underdog in his title fight against Hurd. If he pulls it off, he’ll win a title in his second-weight division. And maybe he’ll even call out Charlo, who may still have ill feelings toward him.
Charlo infamously said, “I don’t want your congratulations, I want your apology” after stopping Williams in the fifth round back in 2016.
Now both boxing fighters are seven years older and seven years wiser. A rematch may look entirely different. And Williams may enter as the “Rocky” of the fight. But first, he’ll have to play the fictional underdog in this bout with Adames.
Adames Has Been Here Before…
Adames enters this bout as the champion and favorite per the Adames vs Williams betting odds. But he may also share similar feelings of falling short in a title fight as he took a loss to Patrick Teixeira just a few months before Williams got knocked out by Rosario.
The Dominican entered as large as a -1700 favorite versus the relatively unheralded challenger. However, the Brazilian pulled off the upset as he dropped Adames in the seventh round and won a unanimous decision.
But since that upset, Adames rebounded well and won three straight bouts, including his own upset over three-time title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko. This set him up to fight Juan Macias Montiel for the interim title, which he won as a moderate favorite.
Now, Adames defends his belt in what could be the last step to finally setting up a shot against Charlo. Adames will need to turn back Williams, who’s experienced being a “real” champion.
“I’ve trained hard for this fight, and I’m ready to defend my interim WBC middleweight title against Julian Williams, who we all know is a very tough fighter,” said Adames. “I’ve worked tirelessly to earn my way in the sport, and I’m ready to prove I belong at the top of the middleweight division.”
With plenty of momentum and having a win over Derevyanchenko in his back pocket, expect Adames to be at his best this Saturday.
