Benavidez vs Plant Betting Odds Preview: Now They Fight
Grudge Match Has Been Brewing For Five Years

Benavidez Favored To Beat Plant in a Potential Brawl
Finally, after five long years, David Benavidez and Caleb Plant settle the score. And to up the ante, this one will be for the interim WBC Super Middleweight title likely for a shot to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. These two rivals have been jawing at each other and came to near-blows at a few confrontations. The Benavidez vs Plant betting odds may favor the former, but in the eyes of many fans, this is an even fight.

The Benavidez-Plant Rivalry: How it Started
This is the worst-kept secret in boxing: David Benavidez and Caleb Plant hate each other. This is not some manufactured hate to sell a fight. There is some genuine animosity here. It allegedly started when Jose Benavidez Jr., David’s brother, confronted Plant at the gym. Benavidez pushed Plant to which the latter later retaliated by trying to punch him, which turned into a scuffle.
“At the gym, he and my brother got into it, and he sucker punched my brother, and that’s just what made it happen,” Benavidez told Showtime Sports. “He’s had a lot of stuff to say about me, and I don’t like what he has to say about me, and I don’t like the type of person he is, and I’m going to make him pay on March 25th.”
Since then, Benavidez has called Plant out looking to fight him. It’s built up over the years and despite both being world champions (at the time) and under the same promoter, the match was not made until late last year. Now, Plant is looking to get a rematch with Alvarez, the only man who’s beaten him. And Benavidez wants that fight with Alvarez after being passed over so many times.
Benavidez has a lot to fight for. He’s in the best shape of his life and is looking to get payback for his brother while also getting that signature win to push him to that Alvarez fight—the Benavidez vs Plant betting odds like his chances as a -350 favorite. With the totals also set at 9.5, Benavidez has a shot to hurt and finish Plant to earn his biggest career victory.
The Matchup: Brawler Versus Boxer
Besides their bad blood, this is an exciting bout because of the contrasting styles. Benavidez is more of a brawler. He will march forward, hurt his opponent, and finish them. It’s been highly effective as all but three of his 26 career victories have come via knockout. As for Plant, “Sweet Hands” is a technical boxer. While he also hits with power, he’s more like a surgeon cutting up his opponents in the ring.
In this type of battle, it depends on which boxer can assert their will. All things equal, this matchup typically favors brawlers like Benavidez hence the boxing odds. Plant, the +250 underdog, will need to find a way to keep Benavidez on his toes while avoiding his heavy punches. He was able to do it to Alvarez until he wilted late in the fight and got finished.
A lot of boxing betting tips expect this to be the fight’s outcome. Within the first six rounds, it will be an even fight with Plant scoring on Benavidez by virtue of being a bit faster and crisper. However, the bigger and stronger Benavidez will wear out Plant and punish him heading to the championship rounds. Benavidez also has a three-inch reach advantage and is four years younger.
Still, sleeping on Plant is a mistake. Many pundits like former champion Bernard Hopkins like Plant to upset the Benavidez vs Plant betting odds. He credits his “skills and experience” and it is something he holds over Benavidez: he’s been in the ring with Alvarez among other top fighters.
Either way, these men will throw down come Saturday night in Vegas. There will be plenty of drama, more firsts thrown, and the start of what could be a classic rivalry.
