Boxing Betting Recap 2022: Best Fights of The Year
Big Upsets Pay Off for Ballsy Bettors

Our Boxing Betting Recap 2022 looks at the biggest upset results of the year, and there were plenty!
Boxing betting tips usually center around hot favorites. Most of the biggest boxing fights are one-sided with betting markets, but there were some mind-defying results this year.
Name Means Nothing
Having Holyfield as your last name comes with pressure, which was all too much for Evan Holyfield.
The 9-0 son of Evander Holyfield entered his fight against journeyman Jurmain McDonald (7-5) as the -7500 favorite, which is astronomically short. However, as our Boxing Betting Recap 2022 shows, upsets happened aplenty.
He was knocked out cold in the second round, which put an end to his unbeaten run and all but eliminated him from a potential title fight later in his career.
“Blessed to be in good health, and that was a good shot no cap! Hope I didn’t disappoint too many folk, but I promise I’ll make up for it.” “Definitely still have my sights on being world champion!” Holyfield graciously said.
Despite being the son of one of the all-time greats, Holyfield couldn’t muster as the short favorite, so bettors who took McDonald at +2000 were laughing all the way to the bank.
Garcia Upsets Colbert
There was plenty of hype around Chris Colbert, but it was Hector Garcia who emerged victorious for the WBA super featherweight title.
Betting on boxing can be difficult, especially if you took Colbert at -3000 boxing odds. He was all the rage as the champion, but he was a beaten man from the outset.
Making the upset even more impressive when Garcia took the fight on two weeks’ notice. We’re not sure what went wrong with Colbert, but Garcia took the fight to him and he reaped the rewards.
Our Boxing Betting Recap 2022 puts Garcia’s win as one of the biggest upsets, not only of the year but in recent history.
Garcia defended his belt against Roger Gutierrez in August, proving his win was no fluke and the 16-0 fighter has his sights set on more titles in 2023.
Bivol Bursts onto the Scene
Russian fighters are here to stay and that’s evident with Dmitry Bivol, who scored an upset win over Canelo in May.
It wasn’t the biggest betting upset, with Bivol at +400, but given his opponent and the magnitude of the fight, it was one of the more exciting and shocking wins of the year.
The 32-year-old scored a unanimous decision victory against the Mexican to retain his WBA super lightweight title, but most thought he would lose the belt to Canelo, who was the -550 favorite.
He is ranked top of his division and there were some smart bettors who cashed with Bivol. The Russian fighters are having an incredible run and Bivol is on the shortlist for the best boxer in 2022 Season.
A rematch against Canelo is likely but he’s out for legacy instead of money.
“Money is good, but legacy, I think, is better. I love money too. Everybody loves money.” “But money is not the main thing I’m thinking about when I came to boxing. When I box, I want to make history. If I thought about money, I would never be here.” Dmitry Bivol said
Bivol gets the nod as the best fighter and we believe he could take out the title in 2023.
