Boxing: Favorite Dominates Esparza vs Guzman Odds

WBA and WBC World Flyweight Titles

There has been a stack of money for the favorite in Esparza vs Guzman odds markets, so bookmakers expect a one-sided fight.

Marlen Esparza is the red-hot -2500 favorite to retain her belt against a fighter ranked outside the top 15.

With all the big boxing bouts canceled this week, bet on boxing online for the Esparza vs Guzman fight, which should be an exciting fight in Fort Worth.

Esparza Getting Job Done

We’re confident Esparza won’t be winning by knockout. The two-belt champion has only one knockout during her 12-1 career, but she knows how to grind opponents down.

The American scored a unanimous decision win against Naoko Fujioka in San Antonio in April and that fitness should be an asset for the title fight.

Her biggest victory to date came against Ibeth Silva for the WBC Fly title in 2021 and it was her only five-star fight. Anything close to that effort is good enough to see her defend the title and Esparza vs Guzman odds reflect as much.

Being a -2500 favorite comes with the added pressure of winning but Esparza is a professional fighter who relies on solid punching to score comfortable wins. Her win over Fujioka was dominant and she barely lost a round with two of the judges.

“I’m excited for the opportunity with both titles on the line and it will be very important. I do what I do, I’m ready to perform. My job is to be the best for the people I represent. Not only my country, but also my heritage, my son, my family, my company. I always try to pick the toughest fighters, it’s something I’ve done for a long time. I don’t like to fight easy opponents. I never had anyone easy, not even when I came back from my maternity leave,” Esparza told DAZN.

“I want three or four titles, I want the rest. I just want that target on my back to be bigger, it’s not that bad. That’s why I do what I do. It makes me sleep better at night.”

We expect most boxing betting tips to have Esparza on the ticket, but the odds are short. Bettors find better odds with Esparza to win by decision at -300, with scoring by knockout or TKO at +240.

However, the rule with boxing betting is to never rule out the underdog.

Guzman Confident of Victory

Despite being ranked 17th in the world, Eva Guzman is confident in showing the world her boxing skills, despite Esparza vs Guzman odds telling a different story.

The +900 underdog has fought next to no one with any level of talent. She defeated an 0-5 fighter in a no-star fight in 2021 and it’s tough to take that fight seriously.

Her biggest fight came against Isabel Millan earlier that year, which went her way and secured her the WBA Interim Flyweight title.

Her 19-1-1 record consists of 11 knockout victories but the Venezuelan has struggled to put away her opponents in the bigger fights. That’s a concern and it’s the reason why she’s a huge betting underdog.

We love her confidence coming into Saturday’s fight at Dickie’s Arena.

“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for to show who I am,” Guzman said. “After this victory, the whole world will know that I am the most dangerous at 112 pounds.”

As much as we want to see a competitive fight, Guzman would need to produce a career-best performance. We think she’s good enough to last the full distance but Esparza should come away with an easy victory.
