Claressa Shields vs Maricela Cornejo Odds: No Dog Fight Here, Expect Easy

One-Sided Betting Action

Claressa Shields vs Maricela Cornejo odds have the current four-belt champion at -5000 to win, which is as short as it gets.

The American is 13-0 with only two wins coming by knockout, but Maricela Cornejo is there for the taking.

Cornejo is the +1200 underdog with boxing betting markets, so the world middleweight title fight could be over quickly.

Shields All Out Attack

Winning by knockout isn’t something Shields is accustomed to, but if she’s ever going to win by KO, it’s this Saturday.

The unbeaten fighter scored a unanimous decision victory against Savannah Marshall last year, which is the best form guide for this fight.

She was facing a 12-0 unbeaten fighter, and although Cornejo has beaten some decent fighter during her career, she hasn’t faced anyone like Shields.

Shields was meant to have a rematch against Hanna Gabriels, whom she defeated in 2018. It can be a negative to change opponents at the last minute, but we don’t see Shields being phased.

What we don’t like is seeing Shields getting caught up in the WWE talk.

“The WWE can call me anytime. I will come in there with my half-shirt on. I will come in there with my little tight legging shorts on, and I will definitely go on WWE, and I will definitely — listen, I’m a natural entertainer. I believe I would have a part in the storyline, and I would be all for it,” Shields said.

Claressa Shields vs Maricela Cornejo odds suggest that she could have one arm and still win this fight. Boxing isn’t always that simple, but all things being equal, Shields should have too much class for the late replacement.

Cornejo Gets Title Shot

To her credit, Cornejo is 16-5 with six wins coming by knockout, so she has power.

Despite Claressa Shields vs Maricela Cornejo odds not giving her any chance of winning, she has turned her career around after suffering consecutive decision losses in 2019 and 2021.

She rebounded with three straight wins, including a TKO win over Sheila Cunha in March. However, and it’s a big however, she has been facing sub-par opponents.

Cunha was 0-1, and her opponent prior to that was 17-19, so she could be up against it on Saturday against Shields.

We also give her credit for taking the field, but seeing as it’s a title fight, most boxers would jump at the opportunity.

Reality is, she doesn’t have much chance of winning. She all attract plenty of attention, which is good for women’s boxing, but in terms of the actual fight, we can’t see her going the distance.

Shields would love a knockout result and this is the perfect opportunity. She has the power advantage and the skill advantage to put this fight to bed early.

If Shields wins by decision, it proves that she’s not able to put easier fighters away, which doesn’t help her cause.
