Shigeoka Steamrolling Opposition
The Japanese national has won his last four fights by TKO or KO, so he’s a man on a mission.
He is the best-ranked fighter in his division after scoring a second-round knockout of Jake Amparo in Japan in March.
It was a thumping knockout blow, and it put the light weight boxer on the world map, and it also saw him defend his IBF title for the second time.
The first defense came against Daniel Valladares, which also ended early. He scored a TKO win in the fifth round, so for a small fighter, he has plenty of power.
Boxing betting odds give him every chance to retain his title at -2000, which isn’t a surprising line. He is the class boxer, and Taduran isn’t much of a rise in class.
“[Becoming champion] was one of my goals and now that I have accomplished it, it’s the starting point of new era and I am very excited for the new stages. I am very excited on how far I can go from this point,” Shigeoka said.
It wasn’t long ago when he was working part-time in a noodle house to support himself. Now, as a world champion, he’s able to train full-time, and bettors should entertain the -450 odds for him to win by knockout.
He’s on a roll, and although Taduran is a solid knockout fighter himself, he also has gaps in his defense, so Shigeoka could land the early KO blow.
Taduran Bouncing Back From Adversity
It hasn’t been an easy time for Taduran, who lost consecutive fights to Rene Mark Cuarto in 2021 and 2022.
The Filipino boxer, who has 12 knockout wins from 21 fights, bounced back with an easy TKO win over Powell Balaba, but that was to be expected.
Balaba is a woeful 9-34-1, but his most recent win over Jake Amparo is a much better form guide, considering Amparo has also fought Shigeoka.
Shigeoka was able to end the fight early, and although Taduran wasn’t able to score an exciting victory, he won convincingly with the judges’ scorecards.
- Taduran might be the massive underdog with Shigeoka vs Taduran boxing odds, but he defeated Amparo 119-109, 118-110, 116-112, so it was a good decision victory.
However, there’s no doubting that he’s the underdog in this fight, and we expect him to lose.
The sportsbook has the total rounds at 5.5, which suggests Taduran could be beaten in the first half of the fight.
He has enough power to land a big punch on the chin of Shigeoka, but his lack of defense has caused him to lose in the past, and he should get picked apart by the much better boxfighter.
Fighting in Japan is another negative, and the occasion could be too much for the challenger.
Knockout Win Coming for Champ
With nine KO wins from 11 fights on his boxing schedule, Shigeoka is likely to win by knockout again.
- The star boxer is yet another Japanese world champion, and we can’t see him being beaten, so take the -2000 odds and include him in parlays.
However, there is better value with Shigeoka vs Taduran boxing odds for him to win by knockout at -450.
It’s still a short price, but we expect him to get the job done in the middle stages. Bettors get +700 for Shigeoka to win in Round 5 and +750 to win in Round 6.
Backing both options isn’t a bad strategy, and we would be surprised if the fight went into the latter rounds.
Taduran leaves himself open at times, and although he has yet to be knocked out in his four losses, he hasn’t fought anyone with nearly as much power as Shigeoka.
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Shigeoka | -2000 |
Taduran | +850 |
